Ok, so I've spoken to them and the best I could do was two months interest refund and one late fee refund. That amounts to about £85.

Better than a slap in the face I guess.

    Thanks for the update ...

    That sounds pretty generous.

It's always good when someone comes back and says what's going on.

Are they reinstating your 0% period? If not you should apply for the Barclaycard mentioned in a previous post.
All that glitters is not gold.

It's a good start but you may be able to do better by going further up the chain. I've had success in getting penalties reduced by politely insisting on speaking to a manager after the lower level employees could do little for me. It's not a guarantee, but it's certainly worth another phone call to try for a better deal.

  • Thanks for your comments. I did ask to speak to a manager but she firmly said that one month's refund on the interest and one month on the late charge was the best they would be able to do. Knowing I was on dodgy ground, I didn't like to push too hard but did then ask for at least another month's refund on the interest (politely making the point that their loss was not at all proportionate to what they'd charged!) She then agreed to another month's refund on the interest. Perhaps I should have pushed harder but, like I said, I realise I'm relying on their goodwill!
  • Oh, and I've applied and been accepted for the Barclaycard offer & already set up the DD so hopefully I can soon put it all behind me and file it in "credit card lesson learnt"!! :-)

thanks for the update, at least op has seen the error of his ways and has took it kinda on the chin, had a very lucky escape with his credit file too, im sure he will never allow this to happen again.

I'd push it further down their complaints procedure to the point of their final letter (ie deadlock) and then decide whether it's worth going further.

But sometimes life is too short and credit to the OP for having a go and clawing at least some of it back.
