I can confirm it happens with Amex. The pump could not complete processing my card and I had to pay at the kiosk but still had the £99 blocked for a couple of weeks.foxy-stoat wrote: »Credit or debit card?
Not a problem for me but I could see an issue if my credit limit was low

I've never used Sainsbury's Pay at Pump (both of the PFS near me don't have the facility) but in my experience Tesco, Asda and Morrison's pre-authorise £1 (even though the display shows a maximum fill of £99).
Even the petrol station I work for only "holds" £1 before the correct payment is charged to the account. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0
