Single, broke and feeling a little bit sad and lost...

Why not see if a local stable wants some help at weekends in exchange for being allowed to ride. Quite a common thing around my neck of the woods.0

On MSE there is another forum called Oldstyle Moneysaving and there is a thread on there for OS Singlies (we are all single of varying ages and we learn from each other and support each other).
Great minds think alike.
I've been reading down this thread and thinking that, but Horace beat me to it:rotfl:
Its
http://forums.moneysaving.com/showthread.php?t=4867512
and...yep....we get where you're at sista on that thread, as we are all singlies of one description or another (be it single since Year Dot, divorced, widowed) but generally "sharing the pain and the joys" of singledom.
On a very practical level = did you get the money back from this ex that he owes you for that holiday? If you've paid for it, then you should have had it OR had your money back from him. Either way...I was rather reading your post as he still owes you that money.
EDIT; That link didn't seem to work for some reason. So either go to the Old Style sub-forum on here and look for the thread entitled "OS Singlies - we do it our way" or you could look down underneath Horace's "name" and click on "previous posts" by her and you would find her last post on this thread and...bingo...you've found the thread.0 -
Hoping this link will work. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4867512
The link works.
Yes, I was thinking that your ex owes you money for the trip you paid for - make sure you get it back from him or put him on Judge Rinder.0 -
Hi happiness.v4!
I'm usually a lurker rather than a poster but your post really struck a chord with me and so just wanted to post something, hopefully supportive!
My situation is very similar to yours although am 35 - you are super young still although I know 30 does seem like a milestone, but please try not to let age get you down. You sound like a lovely person and maybe meeting new people is just a case of needing a little push to get out to meetups etc (not necessarily very spendy!). Whereabouts are you, by the way?
Facebook is a nightmare - I had to delete myself a couple of years ago as it was making me feel so down comparing my life to everyone else's and I may delete my account again soon as it's starting to happen again. But as other posters have said above, what you see is only the best parts of people's lives, maybe 1% of what they are doing if that! - and lots of them probably envy your single, independent life! It really is a page to avoid when feeling fragile (wish I could take my own advice about that!!).
Anyway, good luck - go for it with the meetups and the horsey suggestions above if that's something you are passionate about.0 -
Firstly thank you so much for all of your replies - I kept checking in over the weekend and was truly humbled as to the lovely responses (and for not trolling me and calling me a fake.... that was particularly special).
I cannot for the life of me work out how to do one of those lovely quotes within a quotes.... (the perils of being a lurker)...
To everyone who suggested I volunteer at the local RDA or the Riding schools...great idea - my RDA runs during the week and unfortunately work stops play... but I'll keep that one in mind and will follow up...
To the poster who asked if I went after the ex for the cost of the holiday... Yes... I did. and I won. Although I'd happily take him to Rinder's court for emotional distress
A couple of people mentioned ditching Slimming World - unfortunately the weekly ritual of getting on the scales and justifying my actions works for me. I meet lots of new people who are all as obsessed about food as me. Generally it's a bunch of fat women sat around in a room trying to work out how to cheat the diet...but I fit in just fine...and it does work for me..... It's my luxury item!
To everyone that asked about meetup.com JUST DO IT! Best thing ever. I have had such a lovely weekend meeting real life people. I met about 25 new people on Friday and I can completely recommend it. I joined a group for people in their 20s and 30s. I am quite an outgoing sort so I didn't have any problem chatting to randoms - I thoroughly recommend it. It was really nice to meet similar people in a similar situation... I got in that evening and logged onto the meetup.com app and filled up my diary with events.
Thank you so much everyone for being so kind and lovely. You guys spurred me on.... I today invited people to a Birthday party (very low key, and at my ridiculous expensive to run flat) for my birthday.... Something that I wouldn't have done a week ago as I would have been worried that people would have said no.... I am now trying to work out how to get 20 and rising grown ups (and dogs and children) in my flat! Great fun!
Thank you once again for being so very kind to a stranger on tinternet. xx0 -
Having a read through of this thread (when I should be going to bed) serves as a good reminder that most people are decent and kind as evidenced by people's replies
I am sure things will work out for you. They already seem to have taken a turn for the better since your first post. Sometimes it just good to say what's on your mind and be listened to.27/5/17 Mort 64705 BTs 1904031/12/17 Mort 59815 BT 1673007/04/20 Mort 49208 BT 1572128/07/20 Mort 47387 BT 1263414/11/20 Mort 45905 BT 10134 20/05/21 Mort 42335 BT 686811/08/22 Mort 32050 BT 2915Sealed Pot Challenge 16 Number 50
