Search on Amazon for a 'call blocker' device, there are loads with good reviews, starting from around £40.
You connect it between your telephone and the socket, subscribe to caller display, and the unit does the rest.
I'm just about to get one for my elderly mum as she is being driven insane by unsolicited calls from God knows where.

TPS is run by the Direct Marketing Association, self regulation doesn't work.

A few months ago the consumer magazine Which discovered that people registered with the TPS received twice as many unwanted calls as those not registered.

I subscribe to the Telephone Preference Service but I am still persistently getting calls at all sorts of times from an Indian call centre wanting to "service" my computer. As soon as I try to speak to tell them I don't want to know they ring off. Needless to say the number is withheld.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can find out who these wretches are so that I can make a complaint about them?

You can't complain as TPS only covers marketing calls from the UK.

Have a look at youtube about how to waste their time.

Even if the TPS was valid for calls from outside the UK, it wouldn't deter scammers from calling you.

  • Tell them you are Mr Goan Bugerov and lead them on for 10 minutes.

I thought as much. So better not to register a number with the TPS as it seems they'll probably sell it on as well as the home address.
