Nuisance calls

Hi, at least twice a week I get nuisance calls. I get no number when doing 1471.
I'm with Sky.
The callers have an Indian accent.
They knew my name and for some reason I think are trying to get me to reconfirm it??
I believe the Indian connection is due either to my banking with Barclays/Barclaycard, or, I bought a computer from Dell years ago when they had Indian call centres (don't know if they still do).
I believe my details would have been on a list sold on by someone working at one of those companies.
Anyway, it's really annoying and intrusive.

Surely I can't be alone in this experience?
Anyone else recently had unsolicited calls from Indians?0 -
i have talk talk which enable you to permanently block numbers from calling you, and its a free service, does your phone provider do the same?0

Just buy a call blocking device like truecall or a phone thats capable of blocking with held numbers and known numbers if you have caller ID
Both Panasonic and BT now have certain phones that have limited call blocking facility

I posted cheaper deals on that phone post 50 -
The callers could have obtained your details from many sources. For instance, were you once in the BT phone book ?
Unless we have some kind of blocking system , we all get these calls from time to time and there is nothing that the caller preference service can do, as the calls originate abroad. They aren't very good at dealing with UK originated calls, either and once told me are unwilling to help unless you agree to go to court. They will not just warn a company not to contact you.0 -
Buy a blocker as mentioned https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/65957199#Comment_659571990

Hi.
Just wondering who has registered with the TPS service (in order to try and stop unsolicited/nuisance calls) and whether it worked or not?
Had a couple of unwanted calls on the home phone during the last few days which is unusual as I've managed to keep the home phone pretty much nuisance free for the last 4 years (mainly by giving my mobile number for everything I've ever had to).
Anyway, you can call be overly cynical but I'm worried that registering with the TPS in itself will put my number on a list for people to access, and particularly my address (why do they need that?) - so in effect I could just be setting myself up for a load of junk mail.
What do people here think?Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0 -
Oh, also meant to ask if there are any alternatives to the TPS.
I have a feeling that the home phone has now been breached and it could be the beginning of the end for that particular number.Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0 -

TPS= UK only
Alternative BT8500 phone or a Call Blocker .
Telephone numbers are freely available to the spammers .0 -
TPS is a waste of time! It used to work when first introduced but most scam calls now get past it by being generated outside UK. Get a call blocker system. Last autumn I was getting more than 10 spam calls on many days of the week. Invested in a BT8500 phone in December & not a single call has got through since then. It does not even ring but does list what numbers have been trying. I just add these to the permanently blocked list & they can go & waste their time instead of mine! Result!0
