Cheeky ways to get free wi-fi

We used to live down the street from a teacher training centre. They had a very strong wi-fi signal and didn't put a password on it. Enjoyed free wi-fi until we moved.0

We've got an account with 'The Cloud', it's the general wifi all whetherspoons use. That said we found so many other businesses use it so we're never without and it automatically logs you on
I have sat in my car on the drive before now searching for something whilst logged on to next doors open wifi, I'm sure they wouldn't mind....if they knew( I have wifi at home but it's very weak)

Premier Inn let you have 30 minutes - last time we did this we found that the adjoining Table Table restaurant also allowed 30 minutes under a different network so ended up with an hour in total0

How exactly do you run up a roaming bill? Mobile Data Roaming should be switched off if you don't intend to use it. And once the 30 minute of free wifi ends you would have to pay in advance if you want to continue using it.

Yes, Mobile Data Roaming should be turned off, I know that now, but didn't at the time I used up the free minutes, checked 'no thanks' to the offer to buy extra time, carried on checking emails and got a big bill on top of my Plan later.
It's really confusing, all the options, plans, offers etc out there, I'd like a big alert to flash up 'WARNING WARNING you are now about to waste money unless you press this button' or something like that. I was quite happy with my old Nokia - not even a camera, it just did calls and texts - but was persuaded to get a smartphone recently and am still finding my way round it. I tried reading the booklet, googling and asking advice, but what came back assumed I had more knowledge than I did and was fairly bewildering.
Oh well, I know now, and have data roaming permanently off and always look for a hotspot I'm familiar with, like the cloud or BT with Fon. MSE forums also help, with straightforward advice!0 -
Sat near to Boots shop in Gatwick South Terminal and used their free wi-fi. Gatwick's own service only allows 45 minutes free. Do need a Boots Advantage Card to sign in.0

Whilst in Edinburgh we used the free wifi on the city's buses. In fact, on Princes St we found there was wifi in the bus stops.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0

Another place that offers cloud access is Gregg's, so in my local town Centre, nearly blanket cover as we have 5 within a very short distance0

Another vote for your local library, you don't have to lurk about outside, you can actually sit down in the warm. Also Tesco has free wi-fi.0

My elderly parents are considering buying a tablet but have no internet in their home, is there any reason why they can't use my BT Infinity account? I use my tablet on this when visiting them. They live 3 miles away from me. They will only be watching old music on Youtube and Google for general questions. :j0

When traveling, I always head for the nearest 5 star hotel lounge.
A highlight of my last trip was stealing 5* wi-fi on a freezing winter's day, sunk into a deep leather armchair in front of a roaring log fire with my personal pianist working hard for me next door. A flunky did approach, but only to stoke the fire, supply some bowls of up-market nibbles & confirm I didn't want a drink.
The selection of free english newspapers & delightful rest-rooms with choice of colognes & soft 'use-once-and-relaunder' towels were added bonuses.
(Suggest also bypassing tourist office queues; as 5* reception desks are the most reliable 24h sources of city road maps & will usually let you study & photo the reception desk's guide books)
This is my small personal solution to the difficulties of direct taxation for the richest 0.1% of society.0
