Win 8.0 to Win 8.1

Window 8.1 is not an update in the true fashion of microsoft updates, it's an upgrade from 8.0. Windows 10 has been out for a while I have it in a VM under linux and live on an old lappy. I believe that the next "milestone" of 10 is due to be announced circa 22nd January0

Rumours are pointing to a subscription model for 10 .0

I don't remember seeing that when I signed up... are you sure it wasn't wishful thinking? The also say if you sign upto the Win 10 Technical Preview you will get it free which is what i was told when i signed up
I'd be very surprised if they did give Windows 10 for free to everyone who downloaded the Preview.
I think a cheap deal like the £25 initial price for Windows 8 (which was available to anyone who wanted it, regardless of whether you had the Windows 8 preview) is more likely when they launch Windows 10, but we probably won't know for ages.
Back on-topic, when I upgrade my laptop from 8 to 8.1 (before Windows 8 goes out of support next year) I'll be trying downloading the ISO and installing from that. You can Clean Install it that way, but I think you can also do an upgrade install.
You'd probably need to be sure you know the Windows 8 Product Key before you start though.0 -
W10 will be free to end users IMO.....It has many improvements and additions over 8.1.
Anyway, little need for speculation as the MS event "Windows 10 - The next Chapter", is only a few days away (on the 21st)...Where all will be revealed....Drinking Rum before 10am makes you
