Win 8.0 to Win 8.1

Has anyone noticed that when a PC running Win 8 is upgraded to Win 8.1 - it sits there, apparently doing nothing for a good hour (on a slow ADSL connection) before suddenly displaying 85% complete - and then gradually going up to 100% ?
Also - why have I got to update Win 8.0 fully before upgrading to Win 8.1 ?
Surely, many of the update files are superceded by 8.1 ?

I've noticed that.
When my Medion Laptop updated, it took hours to complete.
It sat there saying "nearly finished" for a-g-e-s.
I wouldn't mind but, I didn't even agree to the update. :mad:0 -
yes its a very slow process to upgrade from Win 8 to 8.10

Yip. Hours. Hours and hours. You wonder just how much was wrong with Windows 8? Gigabytes. Gigabytes and gigabytes.0

all i can see in 8.1 is they brought back the start menu.
Reports on the next version will be a full OS rebuild0 -

Ah yes, 10 minutes apparently doing the update, then about two hours of:
"Update nearly complete"......
"Finalising update".....
"Last few changes".....
"Finishing off".....
"Completing update".....
"Preparing to reboot".....
"Applying update setting".....0 -

Apparently a Win 10 Technical Preview will soon be available to developers.

its already available, i tested this on a PC for a while until PC crashed and had to replace HDD, never got back round to reinstall this. i could not see a lot of difference0 -
For non-touch screen devices, in addition to installing Classic Shell, turning off charms makes it feel more like XP, Vista, 7 etc.0
