yes Everything that happens in any company dept will fall on the shoulders of the Line Manager/Dept. Head.

Unless you have first hand knowledge of every single company in existence, how can you have any idea of who will be held liable in every one of them if a dodgy e-mail is sent?
What was it that you recently posted?

Can you provide evidence of this?
For some reason i dont think you can as to do this you would need to know every single person who has purchased an iPad since the arrived on the market

I know for a fact that with the company I work for, any misuse of the IT system falls solely at the feet of the person using it and provided that my manager had no knowledge of what I was doing, (and as he can't access my e-mails), he would not be held liable for my actions in any way, shape or form.

Exactly the same in my employer - 300k global employees.

but it depends on company structure if they monitor emails etc. but even if Line Manager/Dept. Heads dont monitor they are responsible for what happens in that department otherwise what are they their for.

Simply. They are there to oversee and/or supervise things for which they have power or control over.
If a manager can't access an employees e-mail account and if that employee can send or receive e-mails without that manager's knowledge or assistance, why do you think that the manager would be responsible?

If a manager or department head ever lost their job because of something that they were unable to prevent, that manager would have a field day at an industrial tribunal when they took action for unfair dismissal.

In the end I told my boss to go **** himself and **** this company and
**** you all etc etc.... oh and then I woke up lol
In all seriousness I think it best to just carry on as normal and like most of you say if it is a personal email use your personal account not the works one
I'm just annoyed that I know what he knows and can't do anything about it without arousing suspicion!!

He sounds like a "micro manager", like he has to know everything all the time, hence why he might snoop on emails. An micro manager thinks they have to know more than their subordinates at all times.
It's hard to take credit for something you knew nothing about.

This can make for a very volatile work environment if you happen to have higher than average intelligence and specialist knowledge/skills that the manager does not have.

Signing an email only makes sure that nobody can tamper with the content of the email in transit.
Actually, to be precise, signing an email won't prevent anybody from tampering with it in transit; it only means that any tampering will be detectable. It is a detective control, not a preventative one.
