Need a sofa

Options
Need a sofa, cheap as possible but quality too.

Is the John Lewis outlet shop worth a visit? it'll be a long trip for me tho, do they have quite a lot on display, and do they deliver?

any other suggestions welcome.

budget is around £1000, less would be good as I have a full flat to furnish.

Try eBay. I got a 3 piece suite for £320 and it cost me an extra £50 to hire a van to pick it up. The suite was only 3 or 4 years old and in really good condition. I still have it 3 years later. Just be careful to ask the seller lots of relevant questions e.g. Are there any stains/rips/other damage? Is it from a non smoking home? Etc etc.

Many charity shops e.g. British Heart foundation do secondhand furniture.

Is it a need really or a want though? You can sit on *anything* including the floor if money is tight
  • Ikea are pretty good for decent, value for money sofas. There's a huge range.

On the floor atm, does that make it a need?

Seen one at House of fraser, £700 reduced it says from £1400? not sure how real HOF sales are tho?

Anyone know what the quality of the sofas at hof is like?

They want £60 for delivery too

That's probably about ten times what you'd pay at charity shop.
We paid about 700 quid for our corner sofa, mostly as it is made up of flat pack parts so we can fit it through the narrow bits of our old house. From Nabru if you are interested.

But it wasn't by any means the first piece of furniture we bought.
And the £500 or less pair of argos sofas that OH bought nearly 10 years ago are still going.

Sofa bed from Ikea that we've just bought was around £500 as well and that too came as a flat pack so was brought home in the car.

I've used Sofasofa.co.uk, had two sofas delivered (about £800 for both), would reccomend it. Their showroom is in S. Wales though, if you want to see the sofas in person first.
  • If money is tight try looking at freecycle, I had some stuff to get rid of and joined the local freecycle group. Get updates of wanted and to take, last week there were about 4 sofa's up to be taken, 2 of them leather, would only need a van and someone to help.

Look at the high street range from furniture village. The mezzo is good too for budget

Being an employee, I can vouch for quality
  • We got an Ikea sofa as the price was substantially lower than we saw looking around everywhere else, we'd also just got a new dog and so didn't want to pay to much in case of any 'disasters'.

We've had it three years now and its held up really well, I thought for the price it maybe wouldn't be that hardy but its been good, and thankfully no misshaps with the dog either :).
