Just checked with City Auto's they can't get hold of a battery. I did check prior to buying it and it had good reviews at the time. Bought it for £4k and it had only done 30k miles.

    OP - imagine this scenario:

I bought a petrol Honda Civic in the summer 10 years old but owned by an old chap who hardly drove it.

Now winter has arrived it seems the battery is flat. Apparently it is a known fault with batteries that they have a limited lifespan. Who can I sue to get my money back?

Also the tyres are the same ones as new. It is dangerous to sell me a car in this condition.

Yes I know I should have checked and I know that part wear out and cars need servicing but I want someone else to be responsible for my mistake.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

Even Toyota only warranty the HV battery up to 10 years.
Given Honda warranty for 8 years then it's a risk you take.
You might be able to find a company that rebuilds the units from scrapped ones.
  • I suspect someone else other than Honda can replace/refurb the battery pack cheaper than the main dealer, i'd be searching high and low to find where.

Might be worth perusing Toyota Prius forums, far more of those on the road than Honda hybrids, if there's somewhere that does Toyota battery packs, there's your starting point for inquiries.

Hope i ha've'n't' put any ap'ostrophe's in the wrong place...:-)

New packs £2k but possibly he might have a used refurb?

At least worth having a chat with them about your specific issues.
  • Nice one Cootuk, there's your first search result OP.

If it runs rather than being dead in the water then there's always WBAC.

Honda warranty the battery for eight years. The battery fails after ten. The two are not unconnected.
