debt not on any credit reports

Options
Hi everyone,

I dont know if this is in the right spot of the forum so please move me if I have duplicated/put in the wrong topic

Long story short, I have had debt since I was 18 and was managing fine up until 2010/2011 when i had a run of bad luck with ill health and losing my job.

I had a B******card and had a balance of around 7k and defaulted on it. This debt was sold to Link and I have been making token payments since. I have buried my head in the sand for a few years making token payments on my debts but have decided I need to face up to them and sort them out.

Fast forward to today...I have signed up to Check my File and Noddle to try and sort this mess out but that 7k debt isnt on there. My smaller ones are there, but not this one.

Does anyone know what might have happened to it?

Am I checking the right agencies?

Thank you in advance

  • Send them what is called a CCA request to see if they have the right documentation to collect it in the first place.

Im scared about rocking the boat if I am honest!

It was a Bcard with a 10k limit and being a care assistant at the time I'm not sure if it is deemed as 'irresponsible lending' (well it certaintly was to lend it to me!)

It just dropped off my credit rating in January 2012 and Link havent entered anything on there so it actually looks like I paid it off in full. I did call them at around that time being nosey to see how much they would take as a full and final so maybe they thought I had paid it? Fingers crossed and extreme wishful thinking

How long ago did you default on the debt?

It sounds like it was perhaps more than 6years ago and has dropped off your credit file. Once it has dropped it cannot be re-added (except if a CCJ is obtained).

Alternatively if it is not more than 6years it may be that it is reported on your experian credit file.

Sadly just because it is not on there does not mean there isn't an outstanding balance. You could write to them and ask for an up to date statement.
Obviously if you stop paying and there is a balance then you risk them considering taking court action against you.

I defaulted on it in 2011, so nope it isn't statute barred. Its still there for another few years. I am still paying Link the token payment too.

The Bcard was upgraded from a £500 limit straight to 10k but the £500 limit card is still on my credit file showing the account is open but the balance is 0.

Thank you for that Tixy, I am off to investigate if it is on my experian file.

At least if it is on there I will be able to find out the account number so I can see what my balance is. Silver lining and all that sighhhhh

wow, I just paid 14.99 to view that report!

It says my credit history is good with a 'score' of 888.

And my Bcard debt isnt showing on that one either.

I must have slipped into a parallel universe.

    Im totally stumped now

You would need to obtain a copy of your credit file from Experian, Equifax and Call Credit to see if it appears on any of them. Not all companies report to all 3.

    hi candyapple,

I have checked all three and nothing is on any of them about it at all. It just disappeared in 2012.

I have no idea what happened to it. In fact I have had no correspondence from Link since about then either......

Have you checked the 'closed accounts' section of your reports? Could it be in there?

If they haven't sent any statement in over a year then I would send a CCA request, or stop payments and wait for them to contact you (and then send a CCA request and request an up to date statement).

Yep, i have checked the closed accounts and there is nothing there either.

I think i will send a cca request off. I have been looking around the forums and something was mentioned about the law changing in 2007 about credit agreements. My card was taken out in 2006 so it was prior to this so it may have been affected

Thank you for all of your help :-)
