HELP! duplicate item received from Amazon seller

Hi all,

Firstly, apologies if this is the wrong section to post this in. Hoping somebody can offer some advice on the following.

My boyfriend ordered a cross-trainer for me from Amazon - MK trading, which was received with no problems at the beginning of December. We assembled it on 20/12/2014 and they were very helpful when my boyfriend contacted them to advise about a broken part for which they sent a replacement part. This was taken in by my neighbour on 24/12/2014 and a card put through my door, so I collected it on our return from xmas break on 30/12/2014. So far so good.

On 01/01/2015 another neighbour knocked on to advise they had a package for us and had we been away.... it was a 2nd cross-trainer. Not ordered or paid for. No card received from courier to advise that anything had been delivered elsewhere either. Date on box was 15/12/2014 so didn't tie in with them sending replacement part.

After much deliberation we have done what we thought was the right thing and contacted them to advise of this error. They have said that the courier thought they had lost the 1st one, so they sent a 2nd and advised they would like to collect it.

We are now a week and over 20 emails later and are no closer to this being arranged as they have said that their courier can only collect 9-5pm Monday to Friday.

We both work full time, are unable to transport it anywhere for collection (it's a large, very heavy box currently taking up space in our hallway) and strongly feel that we should not be inconvenienced for them to rectify their error.

We have suggested that they arrange collection between 7pm and 9pm Monday to Friday, 9am - 3pm Saturday or 10am- 4pm on Sunday and that if it's not collected by then, we will consider the item ours and the matter closed. They responded by asking us to get a neighbour to wait in.

Our latest email to them was this

"I was hoping that my previous email would have been clear enough, but it appears that after 20 emails over the course of a week, we are still at an impasse.

As I have stated, I am not available within your couriers standard collection times. Surely you can arrange for a courier collection out of hours, if not with your standard company, then with an alternative? I can arrange for a parcel to be collected from my property at a time convenient to me, so I am struggling to see why you cannot.

I am not prepared to be inconvenienced further by this farce and am certainly not prepared to ask anybody to else to be either.

If a suitable collection time is not arranged by the end of the day tomorrow (Tuesday 13/01/2015) then it will be clear that the value of the item to you is not worth your arranging an out of hours courier and that you no longer wish to collect it and this matter will be closed."

My boyfriend has now received a text from a courier to say it will be collected tomorrow (Tuesday 13/01/2015) between 9am - 5pm! He;s replied to say NO, but no response yet. I'm guessing they've misinterpretted my need for a response by the end of tomorrow.

Sorry for the massive rant but I could really do with some advice on where we stand and what we should do next..... Thanks in advance! :)

You cannot go "Were going to give you 14 hours out of 168 hours this week and if its not collect it will become mine"

That's not how the law works.

Have you been contacting them through email or phone?

email. there's been over 20 emails backwards and forwards so far.

do you know how the law does work in this case then?

We are giving them options for them to collect, but they are not playing ball. They are clearly not prepared to foot any extra costs associated with an out of hours courier collection.
they just keep stating that their couriers work 9-5 Monday to Friday.

Would one of the neighbours be kind enough to pass it to the courier? Or could you put it in your car and have the courier meet you at work? It may be possible to arrange a weekend courier, but it would be an all day appt - surely you can meet them halfway and do that?

YOU are being unreasonable. Giving them so few hours of the week.

Sounds like the courier is DPD or Interlink. You can ring their customer service line and ask for your 1hour time slot today, Can't get any better than that. Oh texting "no" to DPD/Interlink won't render any results.

Ask your neighbour. Or if you have a driver nearby for DPD/Interlink (depending which one it come through) ask if they can take it to the depot to meet the line haul. He will get paid for it so might just take it.

TNT offer it subject to the account.

The neighbours that I know and speak to in my street work full time so also would not be in at the times that MK trading are suggesting. I do not have a car. I have suggested weekend collection and they have not even acknowledged that. If they said that they could arrange weekend collection but that it would for example be between 9-5 then between us we could wait in.

If we are not physically in our property until the hours that I have suggested (and even then, would still potentially be having to rearrange plans), I cannot see what else I can be expected to do.

Surely the company should be responsible for rectifying the error made by them/the courier??? They are making no effort to rectify this and so far, we are the only ones who have been inconvenienced!

Nonsense. What is unreasonable is expecting people to take time off work to correct someone else's error. The parcel should be made available at a time convenient to the OP. If they work Mon-Fri 9-5, then any time outside that is fine, as the OP has stated.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

You should really phone them, things get done a lot faster over the phone than by email.

The OP is not being unreasonable at all.

DPD do Sunday deliveries. Presumably they also can do Sunday collections.

If that's inconvenient (i.e. expensive) for the company whose fault this all is, then boo hoo.

Actually they don't. Unless its a trunk customer.
