Game Master issues

I have just done my routine scan on this computer and it resulted in 882 items needing quarantining. The majority had game master in the item info. None of this means anything to me but I thought it might be a useful warning as I would think I got the problems from a comp.

You need to provide a bit more info. If the majority of that many items really had game master, I wonder if that's your user name / PC name!0

No game master does not mean anything to me as I said. I have never seen it before as far as I can remember. I just thought if it meant anything to someone who understands the tech stuff it might be useful. Sorry.0

What does the report say ?
Are they cookies from site visits ?
Maybe post it here for a few techies to answer: Techie Stuff0 -
Just that it's unusual for so many to be quarantined I guess. Usually the odd one with a suspect attachment. For so many to be flagged it could come down to a keyword being used that is firing the filter.
As Armorica rightly suggests this may be little more than the random username you may have created. Without much info to go though for us it's a little like walking into a record store asking for that song with 'love' in it. [STRIKE]Game Master actually appears to be one of the sources of filters your spam software uses.

On second thought no. I might be incorrect there.“We are not interested in the fact that the brain has the consistency of cold porridge.” - Alan Turing (1912-1954)0 -
OK my brief look into this doesn't bring anything up aside from the fact people who play a lot of games are often called 'Game Master's.
The suspect emails the filter found may have come from many many different & random phishing sources. You noticed the term Game Master as the robots spinning out the phishing/spam emails are simply doing variations on a theme.
Again without any other data it's simply a hunch.“We are not interested in the fact that the brain has the consistency of cold porridge.” - Alan Turing (1912-1954)0 -
Found this doing a google search....
Just to add it was from Fix Your Browser dot com - Lots of info on how to remove too!
Game Master 2.1 B2 Toolbar is a browser extension, plugin or addon for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, also called a Browser Helper Object for Internet Explorer. The Game Master 2.1 B2 Toolbar is made and promoted by Conduit Ltd and will replace or hijack your default homepage to search.conduit.com and in this case the search results are promoted by Bing.com called Game Master 2.1 B2 Customized Web Search. The Game Master 2.1 B2 Toolbar is bundled during the installation process of free or shareware downloads by download managers. This PUP – Potentially Unwanted Program is not a malicious process, but it’s build to promote services, advertisements and should not be bundled during the installation process to trick users into installing it without a decent notice.
It is advised to always read the Terms and Agreements before installing software on your computer. Do never click too fast thru the installation process [Next] button of software as you will agree to software you might not want to install. If the installer offers a Advanced or Custom option button, click it to find out if there is any other malicious software offered and installed during the installation process.Debbie0 -
Thank you Debbie. That seems to be it. I do vaguely remember clicking through dropbox installation last week. No idea if there is any connection. Trouble is I live in sheltered housing for the elderly and there is no one to advise me about such issues. I closed the notification of the issues when scanned and would not know how to find it again. Back to the slate and chalk for me I think!0

Can you remember the name of the program you used to do your scan? You should be able to find it if you go to
>start menu
>programs
Hang on in there - No need for the Slate and Chalk board just yet!
I'm sure someone with more knowledge than me will have some suggestions for youDebbie0 -
Thanks Debbie. I scanned with Malwarebytes. As the threats have been quarantined I do not think I need to worry now. I am probably a little naive about what I click although am usually very careful with spam emails. It looks like it probably was not connected to a competition which I was trying to warn people about. I appreciate all the advice anyway.0
