Are they happy for you to have more than one savings account. We had an online one with Lloyds but it very rarely had much in it, used to use it to try and save a bit for holidays and then it would all be gone and start again. But I am determined to save for everything now. I would prefer not to have everything in one savings account and don't want the sort that you have to have £££££ to start it off and give them notice to get it out etc. Not too bothered about the interest, it is just the actual saving. Don't want lots of money saved in the house. I have saved coppers and 5p's for years and have now started on the £2 coins.....got to get hubby to hand his over though as he is very reluctant to part with any....LOL.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Quiet day today, DFW wise anyway. I did transfer some money from new current account to the jam jar savings account. I only transferred £1.00 because I wanted to check I had entered the details correctly. However, I have now locked myself out of my savings account. I got the login code and password correct, but failed the security question 3 times. How on earth I did that I don't know. The security question I chose was what was the name of my cat. I don't have a cat now, but we did have a cat years ago and I know how to spell her name. The security check asked for the first, the third and the fifth letters. Yup, I know those....or apparently I don't
I have to phone in the morning to unlock the accountDFW Nerd No. 1484 LBM 07/01/15 Debt was £95k  Now debt free and happy :j0 -
Oh dear, I have just been calculating how much I need to put by for grandchildren and my children's birthdays and christmas (DH and I don't buy each other presents because we never have enough money
).
I thought £30 each for birthday and Christmas was a reasonable amount. The problem is we are a big family and I would need £1,200 each year to manage this amount for just my children and grandchildren. So that's approximately £23 per week (over 52 weeks) to achieve this. I am going to try and aim for this, but perhaps may have to reduce the amount allocated per person.
I do always try and buy pressies at bargain prices, using points from loyalty cards etc. etc. but it's not always possible.
Mmmmmm.....thinking hard nowbut at least I am thinking about it and not just buying presents without giving thought to the spend on the credit card that I can't pay back.
Edit: actually that figure of £1,200 was calculating spending £50 on grandchildren at christmas - if I reduce that to £30 then I need £1,020 per year (or approx £19.60 per week over 52 weeks)DFW Nerd No. 1484 LBM 07/01/15 Debt was £95k  Now debt free and happy :j0 -

I just blame it on all the little bits at christmas that add up...!! I have kept a list for the last 3 years of what I've bought and for whom for both christmas and birthdays so have got it set at the right amount for me now. despite being massively in debt I have saved for christmas for years...didn't save for everything else though hence the starting debt of £60k...
I find by removing what I need to save on payday into savings I then don't want to touch it. its lovely seeing your jam jars/pots grow...

Thanks Puzzcat - I don't feel quite so bad about the Christmas/birthday pot after reading your post:rotfl:
I still need to convince DH it's a reasonable sum of money for this expenditure. He was horrified when I told him.DFW Nerd No. 1484 LBM 07/01/15 Debt was £95k  Now debt free and happy :j0 -
Good luck with your savings for presents. We are lucky we only have 2 grandchildren and they are too young to understand what we have spent on them. Last year we didn't spend much on them and cut down on everybody else as well. Although I wouldn't tell people about our actual debts, I am happy to tell them I am a bit broke and trying to cut down and to be honest I have never agreed with spending a lot of money at Christmas anyway, think the most I have ever spent at Christmas is about £200 and that was back in the day when we had money...LOL much prefer to just have the family together and have a nice day....we should have Thanksgiving like they do in USA....LOL
Good luck with getting your savings account unlocked:rotfl:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
