    Thanks Ploppy.

I don't think that buying a gift for £30 is 'spending a lot on Christmas' (but that may be one reason why I am in the situation I am :( ). Obviously I will try and buy 'bargains' when I can, but £30 doesn't buy much in the way of quality toys these days. It's just the number of grandchildren/children that make the amount mount up.

We have discussed telling our grown up children we will now only buy for the grandchildren and it may be that's the way we go. For my son's birthday next month I am knitting a jumper (with wool I've had for a while). Even if I had bought the wool now it wouldn't have cost anywhere near £30 so maybe that's another way to deal with the grown up gifts - make a personal gift rather than buy a present just for the sake of buying a present.

Savings account unlocked and first £10 toward emergency fund transferred :)

Ooh please don't think I was having a go:o or being funny when I said, we don't spend a lot...that is just us and we are all different and have different ideas about how/what we spend etc.
An idea for sons and daughters.....last year we did a hamper for daughter and son inlaw, made up of a few cheap priced items from Lidl/Aldi, but the sort of thing they would not have bought themselves....wine, chocolates, luxury drinking chocolate, etc, they loved it. Also raided the charity shops for the grandchildren, found a few games and puzzles that were in perfect condition and they loved them....spent Christmas morning playing Guess Who and it only cost £1.25....that was my bargain Christmas present!

Ploppy - I didn't think you were having a go or being funny at all. So sorry if my post came across that way.

I think you are right and I do need to think outside the box for present ideas (and I've made a start with the jumper :) ). I think maybe handmade gifts for the grown up girls may be the way to go. I could knit lovely scarves for less than a fiver each. Maybe I could knit personalised Christmas jumpers for them all (better start soon though). Definitely can be done cheaply enough if I buy the wool either from hobbycraft on offer or from ebay etc.

I will start the savings pot and see how far I get :)

I am not that good at knitting and don't have the patience for it. My mum used to knit loads but I never inherited her talent...LOL

Slight sense of panic setting in right now. My salary is due in the bank today. With my old bank it always showed within minutes after midnight but it's not showing in the new account yet. I did check the old account just in case payroll didn't get the account info changed in time, but it's not there yet.

I keep telling myself to leave it, go to bed and check when I get up in the morning....but then I think, just wait five more minutes and check again.

I will be so pleased once I know everything I want moved to the new account is well and truly sorted, checked and crediting/debiting okay.
