Thanks for the link, the description made me laugh so hard!
My family is Chinese and traditionally Chinese weddings involve relatives giving phoenix gold bracelets or gold necklaces with golden piglets on them or just red envelopes with money. (Brides usually keep the gold items in the safe or melt down for money). We don't tend to buy presents and surely money is more useful than presents you probably do not want - I note with horror the photo frames and I feel that weddings should not create such massive tat landfills
Most of my friends' weddings the past few years ask for no presents and for money to help out honeymoon etc! I understand this completely and do as I am told!0 -
If they specifically ask for 'no presents', why not do what they want, with the added benefit of saving yourself some money? As this is the Money Saving Expert website, I assume that's your aim. Why do anything else?0

Italians don't ask for presents, as the "dote" should already come with the bride (used to be anyway).
It is custom to put cash in anonymous envelopes plus a separate card.
The bride & groom will have a nice little pot of money to start their lives with and won't hold grudges if someone didn't have much to offer, as they won't know who it is from.
Having said that, my OH cousin who recently got married, asked for no presents but instead cash so they could pay for their honeymoon, and what a honeymoon they had!!! :rotfl:0 -
For my brother, I got him a Photobox voucher so they could get prints form their honeymoon done for free,

I always ask if I can do anything towards the wedding.
I have done place cards, written invitations, made cravats with matching hankies, helped decorate venue etc.
Also did a cheese wedding cake (special gift for a close family member) and was asked if I would order & assemble one for someone else (who pad for the cheese)0 -
If they have said "No presents" then it is quite clear that they do not want presents.0

Why are people suggesting presents when they say "no presents"? I have had several invites recently saying no gifts and then some soppy poem basically meaning "but of course we wouldn't mind some dosh instead please"!0

We should just embrace other cultures' traditions of giving cash. Nobody ends up with 5 toasters or anything hideous where people have gone off list. After all, it's the universal voucher isn't it?Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0

Sees rather a lazy way of posting, just guess from the title? If OP can't be bothered to explain then I CBA to respond.0
