Do they mean No gifts or do they mean "We'd prefer cash" ?

I've known it to mean different things to different couples.

Personally if I still wanted to give them something and they were off on honeymoon I'd put some local currency in an envelope and mark it "Honeymoon treat"

Why do people start a thread, get (in this instance anyway) some very reasonable responses and then go and delete their post? smiley-confused013.gif

Hard to believe how brief the original post was then.

If I got an invite that said no presents then I would respect their wishes and give no present. Would make a nice card though.

One of the best gifts we received was one of a couples "time" they gifted us help for one weekend, and suggested things like "gardening" "spring clean" etc as ideas I thought this was fantastic as although we didn't need things, help at home is always appreciated. We had them help take a tree down in the garden and had a great laugh, some beers and a BBQ too :T
  • Take them at their word and give them nothing. If they are anything like me, they wouldn't have said it if they didn't mean it.

(should I ever marry, it will either be a "no presents" or a "no guests" wedding. I'm old enough to have a house full of stuff already and anyone I'm likely to meet is likely to be in the same position. Last thing needed with two housefuls of stuff would be well meaning people spending money giving yet more stuff!)

I would suggest something enjoyable, but not a keepsake. A chat with their photographer to do a "one year on" photo

This sounds like a lovely idea. I would hold off until you know that they are happy with how their wedding photos turned out first though.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.
