before windows starts, the machine should come up with press any key to go into bios, or put a windows disk in before switching on, to see if it attempts a boot, or spins - the thing I'm getting at is if it spins, the problem could potentially be softwareDon't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0

Looking at IDE DVD drives the prices have gone through the roof as the are now obsolete. Get a IDE to SATA adapter, much cheaper.0

You can use an adaptor cable to connect the molex power up to the drive which takes sata power. One of these should do:

So I just connect this lead to the supply that is providing power to the existing dvd drive, replace the old drive and connect it up using the SATA port and this new molex lead ?0 -
