    Morning DF0D,

Eeekkk to a dog!! Our dog is now 11 and I can't imagine what the house will be like without him here. Hopefully we have a few years left in him yet anyway! We had him before the kids!

Re the shakes, if something like that helps you in the first instance then go for it. That might give you the confidence if you manage to lose quite a bit of the weight xx

We've really struggled since losing our three dogs in the space of 4 years.. we do love the cat, but it's not the same. We've debated the whole rescue dog decision having always rescued dogs before, but first and foremost, I don't want to worry about the kids and a dog I don't know, then we have the cat to consider.. I'll be surprised if we don't come home having put a deposit down..

Quiet ish day at home, new neighbours have arrived.. bit of gardening and went to see a poorly friend.

Thanks MTG for the support.. and yes you are all right about the exercise! We were also thinking of the timing for the summer hols meaning we will be around a lot or woofer will come out with us all the time which is also the plan..

Well, all change.. we've decided not to go see the woofer, timing wise when we thought about it, it isn't right and we are still having the puppy / rescue dog debate and are leaning towards an older dog. plus the cost in terms of buying is not something we can justify right now.

Day at home, doing stuff ahead - ironing (groan), bit more gardening, washing is on! hair cut for DS and some baking and arty stuff - also the excitement of an attic trip - do love an expedition up there to find stuff long buried!

    Have a good day all.

Good luck with the trip to the attic. If you don't post tomorrow shall we send in a search party?:)

I think you are right to take more time to make the decision about the dog. It's something you have to get right.

    Have a good day.

I wish we hadn't rushed into getting our dog... it's wise to have patience... (shouldn't say that out loud) Ours is not a home dog and legs it if off lead.... therefore never off lead and pulls and gets frustrated.. therefore shorter walks.... you get my drift. We've had to search for him several times in the last 2 and a half years. DD2 loves and kisses him but its me the dog wants not her

Good luck on the job front. Have a lovely day.. my last final schoolgirl (study leave for A-level) has refused to go out for a walk with me and the mutt.

Definitely recommend an older dog - we got ours when they were 3 (now 13) and 3 1/2 (now 4 1/2) and it's so nice to get a dog that is housebroken and (ideally) knows basic commands. Plus you can really get a sense of what they're like, as opposed to "well, is this just puppy energy or is this dog going to be mental forever?" confusion.

Debated the same when we got our first, though ended up with a 9 months old rescue. Always gonna be mental being a Springer :rotfl:

No.2 was an 11 week old sort of rescue (last of litter going into rescue otherwise).

Pros and cons both ways - I found our local rescue centres mostly didn't allow their dogs to be rehomed to where kids are age 9 or younger, some 13 depending on breed/history.

You're doing the right thing taking your time over it DFOD :)

    That made me smile HS!

There is a local rescue centre, independent that has a bookface page which I follow and they seem very sensible with their rehoming and practice, so we had always thought we may go there, tell them what we are about and what we are looking for and then to a certain degree leave it to them to identify a dog they think will be suitable and if it takes a year or more or less, then so be it.

Spent a lovely day at home just pottering about. Made it back from the attic! Washing done and put away, moved a plant and did some weeding. Planned out my she shed in my head and with DH. Also managed to nab a set of taps from bookface for £5 (we are going to spruce up our bathroom for now rather than totally redoing it. DH is going to make a new bath panel.

Can't seem to tire the littlies out this week at all! They have only just stopped fighting sleep at 7.50pm! Seems to have all gone quiet!

I have given up and rejoined WW as well, had success previously but always fought the cost in my head.. but I know it'll work so I'm just going to get on with it.

Weather has been gorgeous again today and is looking fantastic again tomorrow, been so lucky this week!
