Halifax £5 a Mth?

Hi my wife is wanting to switch to Halifax's current account & I've noticed you need 2 direct debits to receive the £5 a mth. She only has one direct debit. She would have a salary & 2 pensions also paid in each mth, would these count? Or will I have to change one of my direct debits to her new account?

Appreciate any help

Thx

  • Direct debit is an outgoing, not an incoming payment. You could set up "fake" direct debits to a Tesco savings account. These are direct debits that can take £1 a month from your designated bank account, and puts it in a savings account. These qualify for the £5 reward.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

Does your wife not have a credit card that she uses and clears each month?
You could set that up as a direct debit and provided she used it each month it would count.
Otherwise you could set up one other direct debit eg TV Licence and just send the money to your wife's account each month from yours to cover it.

My account is set up just for the £5 so every month I transfer in enough money to pay my morgsge payment and home insurance, that's enough to qualify for £60 a year plus a £100 one off payment for transferring my account.

The past doesn't have to dictate the future though does it?

Tesco savings accounts DDIs, for example, say the account being debited must be in your name (either sole or joint). However, some posters on here report being able to set up a DD from their partner's current account.

No, you can't do that. A direct debit is a payment pulled by a business account.
