Certified Document required for Credit Card application?

Options
I've been trying to apply for a cashback credit card and the provider has asked for an original document for proof of address, and a copy ID certified by a professional. They are being quite specific about the requirements for the certified document, the text has to be phrased exactly as they ask. I sent them a document I had certified recently for my mortgage application but they rejected it.

Is it normal for them to request this? If they reject the new document I've sent I'm inclined to cancel the application because it's just becoming a pain. If I applied with another provider, would the same thing just happen?

Yes it is normal. Most banks have criteria which must be met for them to accept documents. As long as you've sent what they've asked for it won't be rejected. You would need to ask each card issuer what they will accept as no-one here will know every banks criteria. They aren't all the same.

Okay, but they asked for a photo copy of official ID, which was then "certified" by a professional (I got my boss to do it), signed dated etc. with a statement that reads "I certify this is a true likeness etc." and I had to send them the original "wet ink" version of this certified document.

Just thought it was very odd, when I applied for my NatWest Mastercard I only had to provide proof of address.

What card provider is it? Seems a bit much but I'm sure I've heard of this being requested before. I guess if they can't 100% verify you they need to be sure it's you.

Some banks have a list of people who can certify documents, what does your boss do ? Does he have any professional registration at all ? They might not accept it if they can't verify who he is.

The OP only seems concerned about the certified ID, not the address verification.

It's definitely rather en exception than a norm to ask for certified copies. So far I've heard only of FD doing this.

True. But if thats their criteria, thats what the OP will have to provide. It's usually companies who can't verify people in person. Amex would be one of those i would assume.

I was only thinking if OP was on electoral roll then the ID might not be needed - so perhaps there is more to this application than we have been told.
