In your opinion I spose Hamish ... not mine ... I care more about the government of my country ... I imagine I am not alone in thinking that ...
How hard would it have been though to say ohhh I don't know hold the ref in September ? ... we've waited 40 years for this ... a couple more months wouldn't make much difference would it really ? He said he would hold it before 2017 ... which would indicate it didn't NEED to be held in June 2016 ... why exactly is it being held in June ? What's his reason ? .. we knew the the date of the other elections a long time ago ... Cameron is at it and you know it ...0 -

The world stops at Berwick. :rotfl:
Obviously it doesn't matter to the SNP as they don't pay their own bills, relying instead on Londoners to pay them instead, but it will be a lot cheaper to have one election rather than two. The Scottish referendum cost about £15,000,000 so scaling up from there we can expect the EU referendum to cost well north of £100,000,000.
That's quite a lot of cancers that aren't treated just so you can maintain your parochial sense of self importance.0 -
Deluded. Its all choreographed nonsense. He struggled long and hard and the other leaders pretended to give him a hard time so that he can make it look like he wrested something of value out of the evil EU. He cant sell it to half his own cabinet though......... who will be campaigning against him. He's an absolute disaster and is doing two things very quickly..........ensuring Scotland will go by his lack of statesmanship and putting this country's future at risk by Brexit! All the other leaders were thinking.....give the poor chap something to take back so the British will stop moaning and we can get on with dealing with real issues like Putin and Syria.
27 Heads of Government playacting for a couple of days just to dramatise Cameron's deal?

Then again the Leave side are no better whatsoever. Their just want to do the same thing here without Brussels interfering.
@ruggedtoast - I recommend you read the text of the agreement reached

and check out what it has to say about the role of national governments, in particular ours. Our ability to follow our own path is enhanced (*). But read it, there will be parts you would applaud and maybe parts you would think not relevant ant to your arguments, but it's worth a look.

I watched a Salmond interview where he was asked about Cameron's deal. I also watched a Corbyn Interview.
Salmond and Corbyn just could not resist saying something asinine about Cameron and neither referred to what the new settlement actually said. They were both dismissive of it on party political grounds.
Salmond had some words about " the bigger picture" which were OK as far as they went, but Corbyn, who never fails to amaze me with his parochial naivety, had nothing to offer but relatively minor issues which have little relevance to the huge matter at hand.Union, not Disunion

By stating I care more about my country I am not stating I don't care about any other ... you really havnt got the hang of this have you Gen ?
Sigh you are boring now ...
Ach well never mind the world keeps turning and life goes on0 -
So the date has been set then 23rd June .. thats really respectful to the people of London, Wales, Ireland and Scotland
Why should England live under the shadow of Scottish Independence at the whim of a single political party. Calling a kettle black springs to mind. Salmond is out. Nicola is in. Rather a quandry for the SNP's united front (at least in public). Or is their relationship more Blair and Brown. Held together by sellotape.0 -

?
Both are In ( the EU ) and Out ( UK ). Perfectly united on those fronts. I think Salmond and Farage are debating soon. That should be worth a look if it goes ahead. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

Ahhh I see what's happened here ... you must've missed the bit where Wales and Ireland also asked for a separate date ... I can understand that though ... it happens often when people are bashing the SNP0 -

One can't help but wonder in fascinated horror what would happen if it was the Scotland/Wales/NI vote that overturned an English leave vote. Am sure it won't happen though. Well, lets hope not.:eek:If England drags Scotland out of the EU, there will be trouble. But if Scotland keeps England inside, it could be double
The only result which would keep the UK united would be a narrow English majority in favour of remaining in the EU. In that scenario, all four parts of the United Kingdom were of one mind. For this to be true we would expect to see a UK-wide majority of more than 53 per cent.
On the basis of current polling, that is unlikely. Of 30 major British polls I have analysed, only ten reported a pro-EU majority so large that most English respondents agreed with their fellow Britons. An additional 13 polls showed majorities of up to 53 percent in favour of remaining in the EU, but such a narrow lead implies that most English people would be held in Europe against their will. And seven of the 30 polls actually showed enough English opposition to the EU to overpower the other nations' leads. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0
