What I'm saying is I trust Swinney more than I trust Osborne ... I imagine I am not alone in this0

Very true ... but it can be exciting ... and also very boring0 -
No, that is a cop out answer. Tell me what will change when outside of the union please
Well, instead the Scottish Govt for a start will only have a population of 5 million to work out best policies for. There would be different policies on immigration, energy, austerity, welfare, defence and infrastructure. Is that enough to be going along with ? ( it is Hogmanany after all).
One of the main changes would be politically. Conservatives would be non-existent for a while. And every 5 years, we wouldn't have to put up with Alex Salmond and Nicola Sturgeon posters plastered all over England with the current Labour leader in their pockets. Or Salmond appearing as a pickpocket stealing cash from the 'English taxpayer'. It seems that Scottish MP's are now a 'threat'. It's not a notion that Scottish voters particularly enjoy, nor welcome while still in the union. I'm currently reading 'Why the Tories Won' on my Kindle. It's a fascinating account. But anti-SNP and Scottish messages 'playing on people's prejudices' was a center piece of Conservative strategy. We can't have that every five years.. then go back to telling everyone that Scots should feel an 'equal partner' in the union for the rest of the time.... once the Conservatives are safely installed again.
Most importantly. Scottish voters will have a more palatable choice of parties to choose from if there's an independent Scottish govt. The SNP are unlikely to last very long after independence.Tell me why you can't raise extra taxes for public spending right now (I believe you can).Tell me why EU is acceptable but UK is not.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -
So you accept that the SNP has lied in pretty egregious terms about the finances an independent Scotland would face...?
It's disgraceful really although to be expected I suppose.
**sigh**
No. I accept they got the oil price wrong. But if in turn you think the entire Scottish independence and movement towards it depends entirely on the price of a barrel of oil. You're frankly a little deluded on that score.
**sigh**It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -
Usual stuff.
Anything can be defended by pointing out others are at it too and as the future is yet to happen pretend there's an equal chance of milk & honey vs hard times.
It's a question of trust ( if we're talking about who's 'lying'). It's pretty plain that Scots voters trust the SNP far more than Labour or the Conservatives. And historically, with what has subsequently come to light re 'secret reports' and trying to bury huge cuts through goobledegook figures, they're probably right to do so.
'Invisibility strategy'....MARGARET Thatcher's government had a secret "invisibility" strategy in the 1980s to cut millions of pounds from Scotland's budget in the hope that the public would not notice, newly released official papers show.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

Aw diddums!
The burgeoning English antipathy toward Scots nationalists didn't just happen in a vacuum. The SNP manufactured Scottish grevience grates with lots of English people now, and just as your lot tap into any underlying antipathy toward the English, you shouldn't be surprised that there is real political capital to be had now in being anti-SNP. You started it!“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -

I think Scottish voters trust people more if they're lied to in their own accent.0 -

........
"Hogmanany"
So, as the SNP looks longingly to it's future Nanny State where childish aberations due to abhorrent parental care such as the ability to spell, or vote, correctly are banned forever by Big Sister, we will be left to ponder the warnings contained in Hamish's post#8375.
For my part I wish that this year's sees the return of honesty to Scottish politics where lies are not justified by opinion polls and where trust is earned, rather than stolen.Union, not Disunion
I have a Right Wing and a Left Wing.
It's the only way to fly straight.0
