Well this Brit is not obsessed with it, I think, however, it is some sort of Holy and untouchable Writ with some North of "the border". Imagine all the squeaking that would go on if in the Devolution end-play the (logical) UK approach was ... OK you can have one Magic Power but in that case we scrap the Barnet Formula.

Actually on reflection I think I should add a point to the SNP plan I posted recently,

Join the EU and negotiate a Gimmemoreski Formula.

A fitting bit of Parasitocracy that should go down well with the faithful.

So how would you reform the Barnett formula then Clapton if it was up to you ? I don't think I've ever heard you explain what should be done. ( or mabye you have and it was eons ago in another thread ? )..

the block grant to all parts of the UK should be allocated on the per capita principle plus an allowance for areas of particular need.

The Barnett formula was an Labour election bride for the Scots which has been retained by corrupt politician ever since

In today's Times it is stated that Miliband is thinking of making a formal statement ruling out a post election pact with the SNP.

At the moment I'd put that in the realm of gossip but if it's true I would welcome it; it would certainly remove one of the barriers to me voting for Labour.

The Green Party has, on the other hand, stated they may ally with the SNP to form a "Progressive Alliance", although I have no idea what is the new meaning of Progressive.

You seem to be forgetting that there are many sparsely populated areas in Scotland which is part of the reason forh the e Barnett formula

Ruth was good on the NHS. Humza and Val were good at the pro-SNP/ progressive/left stuff. Tony ( Spectator editor can't remember his last name )... was good at spouting right wing newspaper soundbites... and Kezia was all in all, a bit of a panicy looking car crash. Danny Alexander didn't come across as good or bad. Just bland.. and very deluded about his chances of hanging onto his seat.

Thanks for the popcorn ! :D

I must admit I missed the program : but would it be safe to assume that anyone supporting independence and/or the SNP gave a well presented, balanced, statesperson like answers and everyone else spouted ...............?

one couldn't just make up the total blindness and total inability to see anything good about anyone opposing the holy view?

No wonder the world is in such a vile state.

All well and good, but would you trust anything Mr Milliband says? He'll say anything to preserve the Labour vote then miraculously have a change of heart when he finds that he can't form a government without bribing the SNP with mountains of (even more) cash at the expense of English people.

I doubt that he cares. He's buying Scottish votes with taxes taken from Tory voters. That's been a Labour tradition for half a century.

That's also the reason the SNP will fail in the end: they have to spend Scottish money on Scottish people if they get what they profess to want.

Try again, Ruth is Tory MSP, who so happened to oppose independence,

Absolutely. This doesn't even take into account the fact that changes to the economy will dictate that different areas will need additional financial support, but on a time-limited basis.

Oil has been very good to specific areas of Scotland. It is questionable whether those areas would need additional support.

Meanwhile the demise of traditional industries has been very bad for other areas of the UK, in Scotland or elsewhere.

A pro-rata base allocation, topped up with areas bidding for additional support based on need.

Now to find a party which is offering this as a policy ... hmm
