I'll agree with all of that.

We don't (yet) know but at the rate documents are being leaked I rather suspect we will soon.

SNP supporters have gone to extraordinary lengths to build a facade of 'competency' around the party in general but Sturgeon in particular.

    Many of us would disagree.

And given Sturgeon was the minister in charge of infrastructure from 2012 to 2014 she would have been directly involved in some of these decisions.

Not cutting the budget for the repairs to replace the part that failed would have been a good start.

Of course, with hindsight not cutting the budget would have been a good idea.

Is this level of criticism warranted though? I feel that once again I am being condemned as an 'acolyte' simply because I can sympathise with the reasons given for the delay.

Had the part that failed not been identified as a high priority for replacement 5 years ago I'd probably feel a bit more sympathy than I do...

The budget cuts reflect the priority of the SNP government at the time.

    Clearly they got it wrong.

The cost to Scottish people/businesses of that bad decision is now immense, absolutely huge, and as a consequence an awful lot of people are genuinely peeved.

A transport minister resigned when a bit of snow shut the main Glasgow/Edinburgh road... I think the head that should roll for this particular fiasco is somewhat bigger.

Your posts are so witty tonight.

Thank you although it's this morning for me.

It's amazing that the SNP can simply do no wrong in the eyes of so many.

At the end of the day it all comes down to priorities.

Keeping vital transport infrastructure from failing should be pretty much at the top of any list of priorities for government. Clearly that was not the case here.

But clearly not nearly enough of you to make a difference.

FETA made the decisions. This was pointed out to you pages ago. The SNP took advice from FETA in 2010. The part that failed, wasn't deemed to be failing in 2010. Only a few weeks ago.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

Because it's not going to be a problem. Most of the oil that is left won't be burned.

Then why go on like the toothache about oil prices in Scotland if it's all going to run out or not be burned anyway ?

Because the Yes campaign built their economic argument around the taxes that they claimed were going to be collected from oil. They lied to the Scottish people in an attempt to trick people into voting Yes.

If Yes has carried the day, Scotland would be independent in 4 months and broke.
  • If the independence vote had gone the other way the UK austerity would seem like a gentle walk in the park compared to what would have to be implemented next year by the SNP to balance the books. They should actually be thankful to the No voters and use the Tax varying powers to reduce their tax as a thank you.

As an aside when did any one last see/hear Swinney not blame the UK Government for everything? He is a FAILURE.

Careful, you get put on the naughty step and made to wear a big pointy hat with SNPBaaad printed on it, whlie being forced to repeat certain passages from the Wee Blue Book, for stating the obvious up here in Natland.

Meanwhile Derek MacKay has this morning accused Labour of trying to make political capital out of the Forth Road Bridge problem, as reported by BBC. My dog choked on his breakfast when he heard that.

No. He's actually been very good as finance minister over the years. We quite like him.
