Amazing how people's views on the situation can differ. I happen to think, based on what I see, that the Conservatives are very strong and successful (with many experienced politicians and definite policies, which is more than I see in other parties); I think this will continue to be the case.

How can you "devolve" national insurance? It makes no sense. Surely you would also have to devolve all of the spending that it is supposed to cover? Given that NI receipts are lower than the total cost of all the things NI is supposed to fund you would just be devolving a funding shortfall.

Well you take what's raised in Scotland in National Insurance... and keep it in Scotland. And adjust Barnett to suit ? And yes, welfare is also being included in priority devolved matters.

Income taxes being devolved are partially the reason reason for English Votes for English Laws and preventing Scottish MP's voting on certain matters. So why not add a little more responsibility to the Scottish Govt ? Isn't that what most would like to see anyway. The Scots paying their own way ? ;)
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

Meanwhile a petition is gathering signatures at a rate of knots for Manchester to secede from the UK and join Scotland in independence. It's marvellous.

It's gone viral lol. :) Strange times #TakeUsWithYouScotland
'New Scotland' would see Newcastle, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, and every other northern community ruled from Edinburgh instead of London.

"The northern cities feel far greater affinity with their Scottish counterparts such as Glasgow and Edinburgh than with the ideologies of the London-centric south.
"The needs and challenges of the north cannot be understood by the endless parade of old Etonians lining the front benches of the House of Commons.
"The north of England should join the newly independent Scotland and regain control over its own destiny."

In the petition, Michael Anchor, from Liverpool, writes: “Fed up with the south looking down at the north.”
Alan Henry, who is also from the city, posted: “Hate being forgot about by the south we deserve a say as well.”
‘Quo Iddon’, from Ormskirk, said: “As an ex-serviceman i find it disgusting that the Tories do not have a clue what is going on in their own country.”
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

yep bored senseless with it all tbh

Yup, all that losing must get pretty tiresome after a while.

The referendum was in the bag with all that engagement and the electorate getting all fired up. Then No won a very comprehensive victory. Yes go smashed let's face it.

Then the SNP were going to go down to Westminster wrapped in the Saltire and hold the English feet to the fire. Only trouble is that the Tories won a majority and so the SNP have the power and influence that is proportionate to the size of their vote.

Nest there's the EU referendum. Presumably a vote to pull out would lead those idiots you are so fond of to 'demand' another referendum. The problem there is that it's highly unlikely that the British would be stupid enough to leave the EU.

So it's back to running the Parish Council. Boring stuff but thankfully all the power the SNP has. With a little luck the SNP will get FFA and that will end any prospect of them gaining power ever again.

Great. Give them all FFA too. That should all but get rid of the deficit. I might even move back.

What a rabble those SNP reps look in the UK House of Commons – if I were a Scot I would be ashamed of them, as indeed some Scots appear to be…

    It's disgraceful isn't it?

The very idea that 'normal' people are actually elected mp's.

It's quite a different blend of rabble altogether from the spirited guffawing type of rabble usually associated with PMQ's. That's much more dignified ;-)

Welcome to the new 'type' of politician. Perhaps they'll grow on you but no matter I don't think they'll lose any sleep over those who prefer the old order.

even some of those well established politicians were so annoyed at those 56 SNP Mp's when they clapped ... it was deemed "totally unacceptable"

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/snp-show-hits-westminster--with-some-totally-unacceptable-clapping-10248609.html

And generali if you think winning 56 out of 59 seats losing ... wellllllll then I would love to see what you class as winning ...

Regards Cameron we shall see what sort of working relationship he wishes to present with Nicola Sturgeon now. It will be interesting.

Politically, he hasn't really got a lot of seats to lose. Plus, there are a lot of potential UKIP votes which might drift back to the moderate right. Being tough in negotiations will appeal to these voters.

This, coupled with boundary changes, coupled with success in dealing with the deficit, might even strengthen a Conservative majority next time.

I think it's good to find out just how decisive and clear a Conservative government will be.

Ok so what you keep the £8.5bn of NI receipts from Scottish employment and then spend it on pensions, unemployment benefit, disability benefit etc. block grant reduced by £8.5bn.

Who pays for the fact that all the benefits that NI is supposed to cover cost more than £8.5bn? The Scottish people through benefit cuts I suppose?
