The single Tory MP, on the other hand, will undoubtedly play an important role, and have direct influence, in the Conservative Government.

He was Under-Secretary of State for Scotland in the last Government and I think could well end up as Secretary of State for Scotland (a Cabinet position) by Monday week.

If so it's almost certain that the only Cabinet minister representing a Scottish Constituency will be Mr Mundell.

In the last two years of the Blair cabinet there was Mr Brown of course then Lord Falconer, John Reid, Alistair Darling and Des Browne. Plus Mr Blair was born in Scoland although represented an English constituency.

So do we think that Scottish people had more influence in Westminster by voting Labour or by voting SNP?

How dare Scotland vote against fat, bloated, sweaty Tories like yourself, eh?

That's a bit uncalled for. Just because your lot lost.

Indeed. Local councils borrow with the intention of paying back later, with no central bailout. Scotland can do likewise......so long as they can find an institution willing to lend to them, as I suspect the chances of default will be high......this will inevitably lead to high interest rates on the debt.

Similarly, let Darling Nikki raise income tax rates to whatever she and her electorate want. 60% on income over £150k? I think she will find that those people will have fled Scotland before giving her the chance to get her mitts on their taxes. Nikki, Waltzing Matilda and Welsh Windbag Woman will find out that life's not that simple. So who is the next target......the middle income earners? They will follow. Scotland will become a barren wasteland of welfare recipients.

That's funny. You're ranting like a mental patient, even though you and your lot have apparently won.

I like how you just create some fictitious scenario then argue against it. It's quite an elaborate way of making yourself look a bit of a loony.

It'll be interesting to see how the SNP square the 'historic victory' with the circle of 'a complete lack of power'. They'll be as relevant in Westminster as the SDP was during the Thatcher era.

    Doh !

That's been the SNP's entire point/narrative re Westminster for decades. That Scottish interests and issues are ignored there. We'll just have to wait now and see if the Tories prove it beyond all doubt. Certainly all that BetterTogether nonsense was comprehensively trashed during the last few weeks.

Still not quite getting this are you.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

Which of these do you count as ignoring scottish issues
-enabling Holyrood to be set up
-providing more money for Scotland than Yorkshire (and the rest of the English people) each and every year for the for that last 30 year
-allowing a referendum and promising to abide by the result
-bailing out Scottish banks at an enormous cost?

Which part of the UK has been treated better than Scotland?

He's been the only Tory MP for the last 10 years in Scotland. By all accounts he's been a very good local MP. However, he's kind of regarded as a bit of an ineffective joke figure..

    That's better. :) The A Team.

I agree it's been the SNP narrative, but I don't think anyone will be ignoring anyone, at least not the UK Government.

Engagement is the only way forward, even if there are different agendas involved, and it will become very clear if one side or the other lacks a commitment to the result of the Scottish Referendum.

Mind you, of the SNP does not get all its own way, that does not equate to ignoring Scotland, although everyone is aware that will be a tactic.

Of course he is, the SNP ridicules all opponents don't they.

You should show more respect to the Scots that elected him. Be a bit more inclusive.
