Sturgeon booed as she hints at another indy-ref, while Ruth Davidson applauded as she defended tuition fees.... and even Murphy got a positive response for an honest and thoughtful answer on Trident.

Well blow me down with a feather....

Perhaps the Scottish electorate are a bit more canny than some give them credit for. :)

Got to admit I didn't watch it tonight ( getting jaded lol ). Opted instead for a glorious 10k row on a flat calm loch with three unionist friends of mine. ;). Will see how the BBC fares tomorrow night, may be a bit more balanced with Harvie there. And mabye less in the way of devolved issues ( from what I've read on twitter ) ? Can't help feeling that these Scottish leaders debates will have far more relevance next year.

Seems the opinion polls put Nicola ahead though.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

Seems to be a lot of people saying that they hope the debate tonight concentrates only on reserved matters. Because switching back and forth between reserved/devolved is causing a lot of confusion..

Jim has been both praised and damned by his performance here..
Scottish leaders' debate: Jim Murphy has damaged Labour's chances..

Jim Murphy's performance in the Scottish leaders' debate last night was confident, polished and persuasive. It was also hugely damaging to Labour's chances of forming the next government...

..Last night, Jim Murphy played right into their hands.
Asked repeatedly by Nicola Sturgeon whether Labour would accept SNP support, Murphy replied: "We don't need your help"... "the fact that David Cameron was leading the biggest party meant that he got to form the government." He went on to describe the prospect of a Conservative government in those circumstances as an "unstoppable force".

...It was like watching an athlete, just seconds away from crossing the finishing line, stopping on his heels to tie his shoe laces up. It was a moment of unbelievable self-harm and it could end up costing Ed Miliband his only chance of becoming prime minister. Before last night Labour held a massive inbuilt advantage over the Conservative party. Last night Jim Murphy handed that advantage right back to them.

...If Labour fails to win most seats on May 7th, we can expect Jim Murphy's words to be played back repeatedly in the crucial hours and days that follow the result. The Tories and their supporters in the press will use them to discredit the idea of any kind of minority parliamentary coalition. Ed Miliband may still be able to form a government, but it will immediately be perceived as illegitimate. Jim Murphy will share a large part of the blame for that.

He'll surely have to give up on this 'biggest party' line soon just in case it becomes a noose round Miliband's neck in a few weeks time ?

Yes he will and he messed up that point he looked like an idiot, the amount of lies he told last night was ridiculous... but I dont think Nicola did very well with her whole new referendum bit, I also believe that yes they need to seperate out the devolved from the reserved situation, I had thought that the people of Scotland had became politically aware but last nights programme makes me think !!!!!!.

I think Murphy got under the ladies skin and I think they let him, poor show from the women, I thought at one point Ruth was gonna lamp him, Nicola really was disgusted with his lies but neither of them stopped him lying or corrected his lies

Which is actually a pretty close analogue of the situation in which you find yourself politically.

Sturgeon is betwixt a rock and hard place with the Neverendum. If she doesnt promise another one she will anger her traditional support base. But the SNP have picked up a lot of voters who dont want independence, but do want Scotland to have a distinctive voice within the UK.

These are a comparatively new acquisition and came on the back of a pretty certain guarantee that the independence referendum was now over.

Personally I doubt that the circle can be squared by the SNP, few political parties have coped well managing such diametric interest groups.

Her point that if you dont want independence then voting for the SNP isnt the best choice is probably a fair one.

Ironically enough Sturgeon's capability in the leaders debate might well make independence less likely. If people think that the SNP actually can call some shots in Westminster thenn the case for independence is lessened.

They should get back Alex Salmond asap. He was a to$$er who everyone disliked and just appeared like an angry fat stoat in Parliament. There was no chance he was ever going to get Scotland's way with anything. But Sturgeon, Sturgeon is a Tigress!

If you take into account the fact that I was in charge and steering the boat from the bow seat, then yes, if you say so. ;)
