Salmond and Sturgeon Want the English Fish for More Fat Subsidies

Well thankfully the vast majority weren't daft enough to fall for it last time.
I realise that if you read some of the Nationalist supporters' posts on here you'd think that Yes hadn't just been comprehensively defeated in the recent referendum but the fact is that Scotland's voters were asked if they wanted independence and they voted No in spades.
Still stuck in some sort of weird Sept 18th time warp Gen eh ?
And while I wouldn't want to pre-empt any polls that may be coming out tomorrow.. Just how bad are they for Labour to prompt this sort of stuff from Gordon Brown ?Gordon Brown to promise Scots higher pensions and benefits
The former Prime Minister is to unveil a major Labour election pledge allowing Scotland to top up UK-wide state benefits and create new benefits not available to people south of the Border.
Gordon Brown is to put himself at the head of a desperate bid to save Labour from general election defeat with an audacious plan to allow Scotland to pay higher pensions and welfare benefits than the rest of Britain.
The former Prime Minister will also use a high-profile press conference, organised by the party, to promise that a Labour victory will mean Scotland getting the power to create entirely new benefits that are unavailable south of the Border.
His move, which is certain to anger and create further divisions amongst people in the rest of the UK, comes ahead of a new survey which is expected this week to show that the SNP is still on track to win a huge number of seats in Scotland.
His intervention is believed to have been brought on by the expectation that a survey of Scottish constituencies, conducted by the Tory peer, Lord Ashcroft, will this week reveal a massive upsurge in the SNP vote which may lead them to capture scores of seats in traditional Labour areas in Central and the West of Scotland.
As predicted elantan ? More 'Home Rule' for Scotland.. ish. Check. Wall to wall coverage ? Check. It just seems a pretty weird thing to do if Labour is gaining ground. I think it's only a matter of time before Scottish ( branch of ) Labour cashes in it's chips and becomes a seperate party. They've been fighting a battle on two completely different fronts for too long now.
Could be wrong of course and everything is just going fine for Labour in Scotland.
Oh and I didn't make any public meetings. There was one in my old home town ( where my mum and dad still live ) with Nicola Sturgeon. But Yes voters had to make way for undecideds and No's which we were only too willing to do. Then the same thing happened in the town hall where I live now !
Dr Phillipa Whitford has just been selected for my constituency.. I'm hoping she'll hoof that old dinosaur Brian Donohoe out quick style. But it's a sizeable majority he has. Still.. if even Gordon Brown is a bit paniced, there must be a good chance. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -
Scotland was offered some version of devo plus without any mandate from the people of the UK
If it's not delivered then the mandate for NO from the Scottish people will be invalid.Well thankfully the vast majority weren't daft enough to fall for it last time.

The Yes voters were defeated by a ratio of 5 to 4. However the No voters may have been misinformed they were voting for further progress to autonomy short of independence. This isn't a trivial matter, the union could still be saved. However, there are enough people who remember how the Conservatives failed to deliver in the Home Rule referendum of 79 when they promised something better if Scotland voted No.
If this happens a second time around, the union's not just dead, it's as good as cremated. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
I do wonder how many No voters do feel betrayed ... Surely they must have known not to believe any of the rubbish from the vow ?
I certainly don't , and I'm not alone in being pretty fed up with both Sturgeon and Salmond making comments on our behalf which aren't true.
As I've said before the last thing I want to see is Sturgeon, Swinney, Hosie and Salmond in full control of Scotlands economic levers. And I'm not alone on this point.0 -

Yep yesterdays fun with Murphy and Milliband was fun, just what labour needs right now .... Not
Oh you missed some amazing speakers, I landed up playing Indy ref bingo with it all, the only person I didn't get to see was wee Eck, saw him after though
The worst was a tie between Nicola and Jim Dollars, but that poor man was done in and wouldn't give up ... What a hero. I didn't ever make the rallies as I was door chapping and lamppost decorating but I always checked out what meetings were local.
Dr Phillipa is fantastic, get behind her, I watched her with Jeanne Freeman ( my fave speaker ..tied with Lesley Riddoch) Jeanne had to keep stopping her and correcting her... Not that what she was saying was wrong it was the way she put it across ... Phillipa said things in common speak and Jeanne was trying to get her to do political speak, as there could've been a journalist in the audience that could have easily manipulated her ... I think Phillipa would be a huge asset down in Wm , she sees right to heart of the matter in a very straight talking way... Just hope she gets chosen and doesn't get chewed up ... But she has WFI behind her, fantastic organisation BTW

Just read that Brown piece, they can't do that, its not fair on the rest of the UK, even though Scots die younger we shouldn't get more money.... Stupid Labour I so hope they get ran out of the country,
May 7th will be fun to watch with my popcorn
Although it will be strange as I won't be voting for the first ever time and I won't be staying up for the results, that's gonna be weird waking up and finding out who is running the place rather than watching it unfold0 -
This thread is supposed to be about the SNP's negotiations for Scotland going forward.
"Fatty Salmond and Fishface Sturgeon want to screw the English for more subsidies."
That was the precise title (until the mods removed 'fatty'). And yet you're all going on about independence. Still.
If you think Scotland is going to be independent in any of your lifetimes you are certifiably insane. The SNP has no more authority to make such a thing happen than Tower Hamlets Council does to declare East London a caliphate.
There will not be another referendum for 40 years or more. And if / when there is one. It will be No again.
Move on with your lives.0 -
I am at a loss to understand how Fatty is in any way a worse insult than calling someone Fishface 'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0

Salmond made many and frequent incorrect statements but I note you don't think the YES vote is invalid.
Even the most stupid Scot KNEW that there was no democratic mandate from the UK voters for the 'promises ' made the three party leaders.
Sadly many SNP supporters have no sense of democratic principles or social fairness and justice but only naked self interest : not unknown amoungst socialist nationalistic political parties.
All they were entitled to vote on was what was on the ballot paper.0 -
It was also many no voters that didn't understand that... The amount of people I spoke to and explained " look Gordon has no authority to offer you this, he isn't even PM" but many believed ... It did make me wonder are we an intelligent enough country to be independent if we can't even see this situation for what it is0
