A Tory govt would be good for the SNP, in fact a lot of commentators, and voters think that's what they are really hoping for. Tory/Labour one even better ( kill off Scottish Labour for good too ). Labour/SNP in power at Westminster ? Probably not bad either. But not totally necessary if they play their cards well enough in Scotland.

Sounds like every possible outcome would be great for the SNP.

that is probably true at the moment that all scenerios are good for the SNP

but bad for the people of Scotland unless they want independence at any price.

Why do you write that, specifically what is the rationale?
    Union, not Disunion

I have a Right Wing and a Left Wing.
It's the only way to fly straight.

The long game. Support for either independence or a further distancing from Westminster. Five years of Tories/Lib Dems hasn't been the most popular of governments up here... ( Tories in power hasn't been welcomed massively up here for quite some time ). And look what damage Labour has done to itself just standing on the same platform for the duration of the referendum ? Rightly or wrongly, it has caused damage.

The prospect of another 'Tory-led', especially one including UKIP, government for the next five years would bolster independence or devo-max support up a fair few % points. And a Labour/Tory grand coalition even more so. In fact you could say that the SNP going down to Westminster might be the least best option. And most probably why Nicola Sturgeon has introduced some pretty contentious 'red lines' for deals ( Trident, anti-austerity, further powers etc etc ). I'd guess it would have to be worthwhile somehow. Socially, politically, financially.. and not just for Scotland either. The SNP aren't alone against Trident renewal, or easing off the gas a bit austerity wise etc etc.
In the end, it suits the SNP to have a Tory government. A government that continues all the policies that the SNP has set itself against makes it easier to sell independence. A Labour government that is moving towards the “socially just” future the SNP talks of makes that less easier. It’s hard to sell the need for independence when you are working with a left-wing Westminster government that has repealed the bedroom tax, capped fuel prices and rent, and is raising the minimum wage higher than the Tories ever would.

Given the shift in voting behaviour that is likely to put the SNP in a position next May in which they do have proper influence on the formation of the Westminster government, we need to take what the SNP says very seriously.

It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

What excitement : maybe the most popular political party in Scotland, about to win a landslide victory, might achieve a party membership 2.5% of the electorate.

surely a first for any political party worldwide?

i thought it was to remind us of how idiotic he can sound ?

the fact that the SNP is over 100k ( if it is) is rather interesting we are less than 10% of the population of the UK ... the Labour party is something like 187k or so... now that is for 100% of the population ...

    interesting indeed
