Hi Shaz, nice to hear that you are doing well. How often do you see the alcohol councillor? What sorts of things do they do?

I'm doing good, apart from a sore neck. Don't know what I've done, but its pretty painful. Going to a meeting tonight, feel a bit rubbish though - can't wash my hair because of the neck and I'm looking a bit greasy!

    Shaz,
Well done well done, remember if you dont take the first drink you will not be able to ever take a second and will not be able to get drunk.

Good on you kid. One day at a time and it will help to count the days. Think how you will feel when it is your alcohol free birthday. Remember too every day without drink is one more day that the craving will go away and it will get easier. Every time you break that it is down that hard road again with a full backpack but for every day that you dont drink the load gets lighter and lighter.
Way to go you go girl.

Hear hear. You've shown you can do it, now all you have to do is keep doing it.

Can't remember where I heard or read it recently, but apparently your liver begins to show measurable improvements in function between one and three months after you stop. That's a shorter goal than "the rest of your life" and it is achievable. When you get there you can worry about the next stage, but you will probably be in a different mindset by then anyway.

It's a pity we can't see our livers improving. We can however see our complexion becoming less florid, and most noticeably our bank balance increasing! :D

hi people i aint been around for a while ive been mad busy at work.

i was offered antibuse at one point and them ones campraci? to help with cravings, i never had the antibuse as i was told i could die if i drank on them. and they wanted to try the other options first. thats when the seamingly endless rounds of home detox started. i cant say the anti craving ones worked for me. when the real craving kicked in was after i had had one or two drinks depending on what i was drinking. before that i see it as being an obessesion.
i have proberly said this before on here but i never liked the idea of being obsessive. but i can accept that now as it helps me process the way i once behavied.
If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.

When I was younger, I remember my Mum had a box of antabuse, and she told me if I carried on the way I was going, she'd start to give it to me. I was convinced that she was going to slip it in my food, but I didn't stop drinking. I don't think it would have stopped me drinking - I took so many other stupid, reckless and down right ridiculous risks, that I'd risk drinking on it anyway.

hiya fg, hope your neck gets better soon. at the alcohol clinic i see a counsillor, who tells me to keep a drink diary, so firstly we look at that together, and discuss issues around why i might have had a drink, he also helps me by listening to me moaning about my probs instead of turning to drink, he suggests activities to do to keep me occupied, he has organised a guy from a group called base4 to do some work with my kids,, as they too think drinking is cool, and i dont want them going the way i did. their is also a doctor their at the clinic who can prescribe things such a detox, antabuse, and camprasil (sp), which is supposed to help with the cravings.

thankyou everyone for your support, hope everyone has a great day

Hi, hope you dont mind me jumping in at the end of here.

I was wondering if anyone had any books they could recommend about helping family members with alcoholism? Or just give me any insight about ways to help? The person is my mother in law, I'm not massively close with her but would like to be able to help my fiance and his sister in any way. Also help her but she is on and off with wanting help.

Thanks in advance! - I don't get on the computer often and can't stay on for long as it makes me dizzy!
