And that's my drinking life, it's like Groundhog Day, everyday is the same as everything I wanted to do the day before is still there and still will be the longer I carry on blotting it out with drink.

Jo, the bolded phrase sprung out at me on reading your post. Before I read it I was already thinking around the fact that there is a very good reason they call it "getting blotto". If you can think of each day as a white sheet of paper, to be filled with whatever you want, even if it's just contemplating your navel, then any time spent drinking, and its effect on your consciousness, is a dark splodge on that white page, which not only uses up valuable "you" time, but also makes the whole page look unsightly.

Make today a day when your page is filled with positive, clear, beautiful things, that you don't want to tarnish with ugly black blots.

What are you all up to then? Not too frozen I hope, or flooded out. Never mind, soon be spring :).

Been invited to a party on 23rd Feb - will be my first real test. It's in someone's house, out in the wilds, so I will offer to drive, but OH might not want me to as I'm not very confident driving at night. (I'm not brilliant in daylight either :o ).

Also, I thought of one food item that I refuse to give up - fish 'n chips at a lovely restaurant we go to, where they put a bit of beer in the batter. I think I can handle that though ;) .

How are you doing Jo, Shaz and the rest of you? I am sitting here looking at the rain outside. It does rain in Algarve, and when it rains it rains. All those who are smiling at this point should have a good look at themselves to see if these smiles are of the sympathetic type or if they are giggles of the "serves you right" type. Still the sun will shine sometime soon.

Does anyone drink more in the winter - I drank more but not to excess before new year but since I stopped after new year , I have felt really flat. This winter seems so dark and miserable.
    An average day in my life:hello: :eek::mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T :o :rotfl: :rotfl: :p :eek::mad: :beer:

I know what you mean. The evening starts in the middle of the afternoon, and there doesn't seem to be any reason not to. You're doing well though, if you've managed the first fortnight.

Have a big glass of fruit juice or pop and a sandwich or a slice of cake, whatever you really enjoy, when you get the first craving of the day. Take each hour as it comes. It really does get easier. I expect you are finding that already.

Sadly no, she died 5 years ago.

One of the new-ish benches on the front (next to the flats they made out of the Moorings and looking out to Cumbrae) is dedicated to her. Its a blue one and it has her name on saying that she is loved by us all... if you pass by it sit on it sometimes for me...

    Has anyone used antabuse?

    hi there,
i am new to this thread.
i hope you dont mind me coming here asking for help, as i believe my partner is an alcoholic.
he has to drink every day but becuas ehe doesnt drink from getting up says it isnt a problem and he isnt alcoholic.
the thing is he HAS to have a drink on a night so far as he will cause a huge row if i say we cant afford it and will even go all round the house looking for coppers/loose change to try and get some, he has in the past spent our last few pounds on alcohol. i once rang AA as i was really upset and wanted some kind of help but they hung up, i assume its because i was crying?
anyway he has admitted he has a problem although he says he isnt classed as an alcholic, he is on anti depressants as he is a hypochondriac(sp?) and the alcohol makes it worse, he wants to stop but at the moment wont entertain things such as AA meetings as he feels we can do it togther.
so i am here to ask for any tips etc to help him come off the drink,
    thanks in advance
    rach xx

hi rach, and welcome to the thread.
can't offer much advice i'm afraid as your oh sounds like me, and it is a problem, especially if you can't afford it.
hopefully somebody else with good advice will be along shortly
enjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)
