    this is one part of this thread that gets me speaking, not lurking. Hi Taffy, Brodev, we're all from the same part of the world. Born and Brought up in Port Glasgow, mum retired to Largs for 17 years, spent ALL summer hols in Millport. Love it....

    glad to see you have come out of hiding aah ;). It is certainly a nice part of the world but then Tyneside is nice also. I had my first drink and my first black out in Whitley Bay in 1955 at the age of 14.

    Happy new year folks. i've spent the evening reflecting on the year thats past. doing a bit of meditaion and writing a gratatude list which is quite big. one of the things i've been and am gratefull for is this thread. thanks for making it what it is guys. my wife went out to a night club tonight i didnt feel comftable going i think if it were english people drinking or sober cz people i would be ok but as there is a lauage barrier there too i wouldnt really fit in. i've been quite happy at home writing my thoughts and thanking god for the life i have today.
    i hope everyone else has ben ok.
    If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.

    Lang May Yer Lum Reek literally translates as Long May Your Chimney Smoke. This was the greeting that a Scots First Foot said as he handed over a lump of coal to his host on new years morning. It means that you are wishing that the home will always be warm and welcoming and not dark and cold.

    On new years night Scots went to one anothers houses bearing gifts of whisky shortbread and coal. This was and is known as first footing. The first foot is the first person to cross your door in that new year. Tall , dark and handsome men were supposed to be lucky. I'm small, bald and ugly. :rolleyes:
