Hello all, welcome to everyone who i have not seen here before. i was just reading back and saw about the DVLA i have my license coming up for review at the moment. i was worried as i changed doctors and was signed off at the begining of the year and thouhgt it would go agaisnt me... i got a call today from my doctor asking me to go and help him fill the form in he is suppossed to do alone which is good news. he said that i deserve a chance to fully have my life back rather than on a year to year basis.

I put all this down to finding a spirtual solution to the problem. now i do good things with my life good things happen in return. :)

Feelie well done on getting your year.. i know what you mean about not feeling "sober" if you have acted out in other ways. i think it depends how you veiw sober.... i had been clean and straight a few times before i starting practising the 12 steps daily. but i was not really sober in the way say my brother is when he is not drinking or using drugs(doctors inculded) i found i got worse when i didnt have anything to make me feel different. always p1ssed off at tiny things, trying to controll others and thinking i has whatever mental illness that i saw on tv amonsgt other things.

It's the state of mind above that i have recovered from. my body is in a lot better shape too.and as long as i do whats suggested on p86 everyday and following other instructions as needed. along with using the step3 and 7 prayers morning and night my spirt is recovered from that awful malady of R.I.D

I like going to a mixture of fellowship meetings these days as the ammount of people i have met inaa that puff weed and talkabout the program and how well it works got to me coz i cant use chemicals in any form. if they can then good for them if they want to but i fear its a case of putting down a drink and picking up the smoking equivalant. i have recently added caffine to this too as i was not drinking it like a normal person would.

I still have days when im not feeling all that good but i have the daily inventory to look at what part of me is causing it. i find its normally me trying to controll things that i cant. or i am not making ammends that need doing to clear resentments. it can be other things but those are the ones i fall foul of most.

Anyay i'm banging on again and will no doubt upset someone soon so i'll leave it there for today. i'm off to a primary purpose meeting tonight as ive been asked to share.. I'll end by saying i hope everyone who wants to finds the life i have after alcohol cause it really is good :)

well done glen for taking the brave decision to stop drinking.

does anybody else have an oh that seems to be against them stopping drinking?
i ask because my bf keeps saying i will ruin his xmas by not allowing alcohol to come into my house. its my home, he does not live with me, so he has two choices, either stay at his own house and drink, or stay here the odd night and not drink.
    what does everyone else think?

Shaz, I came out of detox a week before Christmas - and guess where now dh expected me to be on new years eve? Yep the PUB :(

Oh and I went and had the most miserable NYE ever imaginable:(

DH couldnt get his head around the fact I had a serious drink problem, mainly because if he did that, then he had to accept the idea he may have one as well. We met in a pub, we both drank heavily, all our socialising was done around drink. We done EVERYTHING on the back of a drink. Taking the drink away meant for him taking away HIS way of life - and he wasnt ready for that :(

Its hard for the people around you to support what you are doing because they are going to lose you - lose the person you are with drink. Giving up drink is really just the first step of so many changes you will make. And people dont like change, esp if it effects them.

Stand by your guns shaz, its your house, you dont want alcohol in it so don't. If you didn't want people to smoke in it no body would raise an eyebrow.I still after 9 years refuse to have anything other then larger in the house. Even my wedding 4 years ago I only served lager, wine and soft drinks - no spirits and the only person who got rat arsed was sent home in a taxi early :)

Shaz, its your life, you have chosen this route, don't let others dissuade you. And maybe you Oh needs to look at why not having a drink in your house is going to "ruin" his Christmas, as a couple choosing to spend christmas together should he not be looking at making Christmas for both of you?

Sorry, A bit off topic, but, being a wrinkly, I sometimes don't know the shorthand. What's the difference between "OH" (other half?) and "DH" (no idea) ? Is it Dumped Half?

Welcome to Glen0000. I had exactly the same response as you when I stopped drinking. Slept extensively and still sleep well - it's great, but does take a bit of getting used to and I have to be in bed by 11pm or I oversleep. It's just so nice to wake up refreshed, with no hangover, no concern about what I got up to the night before and ready to go to work - and my work is so much improved it's staggering!

I can't see a post from aah for a while. Aah please let us know how you're getting on. I didn't suddenly stop drinking - I had a few attempts (three or four) before I got it, so please don't fret it stopping is baffling you.

Feelie - hope you celebrated your birthday well and good luck for the days ahead.

Shazrobo - still thinking of you too and wishing you well.

All other non-newbiesm, I take my hat off to you all for your support of me and each other. This is a great place.

    Have a good day.

i've lost count of the ammount of times i tried to stop off my own back.. i just keep off it a day at atime now. i dont think im quit forever if the thought of drinking does come up (which has started to be rarer and at more bizare times) i just think i not going to have one today sod tomorrow i'll think about it then.

I was always giving up for keeps but a life with no alcohol scared me in to drinking the day i had sworn off for life IYKWIM
