Possible to get £40 Quidco on top of £100 bonus on Halifax Reward Current Account?

  • This is probably a stupid question but just to make sure, if I change my reward acc to a current acc can I then open a new reward acc through quidco for the £40 + £100 switching bonus?

Ive never recieved a switching bonus before, just wondering if I could make another £40 out of it.

So just to clarify then.... alls you need to do then to claim the £100 switching incentive is to just use CASS to close your old account

I have an old account I am looking to get shot off but it has not got any Direct Debits or anything on it. It simply has a balance of £1.17 lol
Some posters have reported simply switching a small credit balance and successfully getting the incentive.

Personally, unless DDs are required (eg with Co-op and Nationwide RAF), I always dump £20 in and set up a couple of small SOs (and let them go once)...just so there's something to switch.
Oh actually I could get rid of my staff bank account after the 5 February and have my salary paid into it and claim the monthly £5.00.
Doesn't have to be salary...can be an FP in, and straight back out again. There are better places for your salary than a Halifax Reward account! And don't forget the DDs.

What would those places be and why, if you don't mind sharing? I'm not the bank-account-savviest person around.

Also, I don't know if this is worth me starting a new thread for, as I imagine some of you might know the answer - how easy is it to get access to old bank statements once you close a bank account?

I have an online-only account with Santander and have just realised how often I use the search facility to view old transactions. I wonder how easy it would be to get statements from them should I have to prove a payment, etc.

Some current accounts pay 5% AER interest, some 4% AER interest, some 3% AER interest, some cashback on your household bills...etc. So even if you spend all you earn(!) you're still earning interest right up until the point you spend it.

The Halifax Reward payment is nice to have, but you can have it in addition to interest & cashback on another account elsewhere.

Did you initiate the switch immediately after the application completed or not?

Yes entire application/switch done as one.

I can't answer that question (others with experience might), but would just say that's yet another reason why I'd never switch and close my main account. When you're doing these switching offers it's much better to use donor, or sacrificial, accounts in my opinion.

Thanks. I should've thought of this way earlier. I think I'll have to see if I can cancel the switch, keep the Halifax account, lose the bonus and use it as a sacrificial account for the First Direct bonus.

Update in case useful to anyone coming across this thread: I didn't cancel the switch. Turns out that with Santander online banking you can download all your transactions into Excel and PDF documents. I did this a year at a time using the date search facility and it was very quick. I also went into the messages area and downloaded the last couple of years' worth of electronic statements.

If I wanted a totally official statement from them in the future, they keep account data for 6 years and it's £10 a statement.

Has anyone actually had £40 confirmed (payable) through Quidco from Halifax yet?
