ive done 2 hpi checks against the car and there is no outstanding finance, so the car is mine and totally paid for. if things where dealt with in an adult way when we parted id have had no problems paying the rest of the loan what so ever but.. and no we both lived with parents but totally independent with out food/washing etc hence why i was helping her out0

Ok, so there's your answer. Legally you have no obligation. End of. In a nutshell, that's it - morals aside ( which you've already mentioned ).0

It may have cost her £12k but she has made a great decision.0

Well you would have had a problem repaying the loan as, by your own admission, you don't think you could afford the repayments. I do find it odd that someone living at home would need £80 a week of their boyfriend to pay for food and laundry but that's by the by.
I look forward to seeing you both on Judge Rinder.0 -
Legally, the car is yours, you do not have to pay the loan, she can't take the car from you (if the loan was a personal loan from a bank).
Morally, that's a personal thing, you could keep the car and tell her tough, or if you're both on good terms you should give her the car to sell on or whatever. It's all circumstantial.Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

i used online banking to send her money for food shopping and her travelling to work around £80 a week.. un beknown to me she was actually using this money to help pay off the loan.. now we've gone our separate ways she wants me to take over the loan?
Can you prove the money you sent was for food shopping and travel expenses and not repayment of the loan? "Food-shopping-money" for someone who lives with her parents, doesn't sound too convincing to me.
But if you can convince the judge (if it comes that far)..............who am I to argue!0 -
this will come down to what can be proved in court
It does seem strange that someone who needed help with money for food and travel whilst living with parents would be given a £12k loan. Did that only start when she was having to make loan repayments for your car?
She could well turn around and say that the regular money you gave her was for loan repayments (which you say is what it was used for) If it started at around the same time then she could say that this was the loan repayment money
I know someone in a similar situation, bought a car for his then partner, he paid but registered in her name. Although looked clear cut that the car was legally hers he went to court and the bailiffs got the car back0 -

Taming £12K off your girlfriend to buy a car you can't afford yourself? Priceless.
No wonder this one still lives with mommy.
From the OP I saw it more as the GF decided to buy him a car...

basically around 2 years ago my girlfriend at the time took a £12,000 loan out to buy me a car as a gift.... the car is registered in my name and has been paid outright by the loan so is free on the HPI check..
i used online banking to send her money for food shopping and her travelling to work around £80 a week.. un beknown to me she was actually using this money to help pay off the loan.. now we've gone our separate ways she wants me to take over the loan?
first of all i did not ask her to get me the car.. there is around £7000 left on the loan i'd like to know if anyone on here knows where is stand? as i obviously dont want to carry on paying it.. (which sounds harsh but im not sure i can afford it)
thanks
The fairy story You Wish it was
Even you know someone can not 'gift you' with something they do not have (the money)
The REAL story is:
You wanted a car you can't afford and have lousy credit so she took a loan out FOR YOU in her name
You have been giving her £80 week in repayments (which any @r$eh0l£ can see)
and now its over you want yo play the "it was a gift" card ha ha ha ha - good luck with that claptrap in court
I'm not even sure how you can sleep at night knowing you have put someone in debt - I fact she would probably say it was never a gift and she borrowed the money because you have lousy credit
The honeymoon is over, now its time to give her the car back so she can sell it to get out of debt and the short fall will be her lesson not to lend money you don't have in futureWhen will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?0
