Paranoia......!? The free AV suites are home versions of the paid for suites. More than adequate for any normal home user. Even those who lurk around murky sites are well protected by them.
Delve into any malware/Virus on a PC and the vast majority have got there through some stupidity, naivety, or ignorance. No amount of money can buy an AV suite that will protect you from that.....;)Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

It cost me £65 to renew my Norton 360 last week, it was £37 last year. Five minutes after I renewed, the sent an email offering to reduce the price from £60 to £55.
I could have bought new for less, but it's not very clear whether it's the same one, and I couldn't be arsed with all the aggro of installing it.
I use Norton 360 on all our computers and really like it. But Norton's renewal pricing is pants. I simply buy a new package of Norton 360 from Amazon at a discounted price each year and update with the new key. No need to reinstall the software.... This goes for all security software, cheaper buying a discount new package and just update the key0 -
I have recently just renewed Norton on my laptop. Never renew on their website as it will cost you about £40 plus to get a new 1 year licence. I just went onto Amazon and bought a licence key for £15.54 and then just opened Norton on my laptop and clicked on 'View My Renewal Options' and state you have a key. Input the key and you have a new 1 year protection.

That's what I thought would happen when I clicked the renew option, but it went through the whole uninstall/install palava. I looked at all the cheaper ones on Amazon, but I couldn't tell whether they were the up to date versions or not.
I've just clicked the renew option now, and the price has gone up to £69.99 in the last week!0 -

when you buy retails software 9/10 it wont be the latest version, but once installed it will ask if you want to check for latest version, as the retailer may have had that in stock for the last 6 month or even 12 months
with Norton the exact version number will be on the disc0 -
Mine says the Version number is 21.6.0.32.0
