  • Stick with what you've got already if it's just a one-off repair, if you've got something like a Ka at the moment once all the repairs (I'm guessing welding if it is) have been done it won't cost you an awful lot more.
  • A 2001-2006 Toyota Corolla springs to mind. 1.4 VVTI petrol would be a good bet.

If you like the looks of the Honda, get a 2001-2005 Honda Civic 1.4 petrol

Sorry didn't read the bit where you said you wanted the same size as a Ka. In that case scrap the above, and go for a 2002-2008 Honda Jazz 1.4 VTEC or a 1999-2005 Yaris 1.33 VVTI.

If you want to spend a little more you can get the Toyota Ago/Citroen C1/Peugeot 107. These cars are cheaper to run but aren't as well built as the Jazz or Yaris.

Don't listen to Herloz, I know what I'm talking about. His clearly deluded if his having fun in a Vauxhall Corsa...

The i10 is in the list, so that's your hunting ground.

Personally, I would go for something one size bigger.
If you are going to the bother of owning a car, you want to have enough space for easy living. Spending half an hour re-arranging the shopping in the supermarket car park to make it all fit is so unnecessary.

Both of them are bigger than a Ka, but worth looking at. The Yaris 1.0 is also perfectly suitable. I wouldn't be specifically looking out a 10+ year old Yaris though, when the OP can get a 2009 facelifted 1.33 TR model well within budget). Ditto the Jazz, where the OP can get a 2010 model with the 1.2 engine. Both better than the previous generation you suggested.

You really don't. But you'd have to actually the whole thread again to find out why. Can you point me to any bit of advice you've provided that has been accurate? I'll give you the mytires.co.uk selling oil thing though, that was useful, but actual car recommendations?

Skoda Citigo if you can find one for your budget.

Yaris 1.0 and Jazz 1.2 I can also vouch for but it would depend on how much motorway driving/A-roads the OP would be doing as the larger engined variants would provide that extra poke and mpg difference would be negligible. But if the OP is happy with the power of the Ka then yes the 1.0 Yaris or Jazz would be fine.

Just checked the prices on Autotrader and yes OP can definately get the mark 2 Yaris '06 onwards for £3k, may find it a little more difficult with the later generation Jazz but its definitely possible if OP wants to spend a little more.

The 1.33 Yaris on the newer models (I think 08 onwards) that have a road tax of £30 will hold their value well in the years to come. They have virtually the same mpg as the smaller engine but much more powerful and still has a low tax rate.

Its https://www.mytyres.co.uk by the way :)

Given that the OP drives 2 miles each way to work, we can rule out lots of motorway use.

Weirdly there's more choice of £5k Miis about than Citigos.

I've gone the other way, from a toyota to a citroen (when the lazy spanish can be arsed to send it, delayed by a month). Toyota customer service aint what it cracked up to be, and having FTSH doesn't seem to count for much when items which should have lasted life of the car stop working.
  • I know it's a touch bigger, but really Fiesta is the answer.

I might be missing something but I can't see why you'd want to have such a tiny car when a modestly engined Fiesta won't cost more to run, anybody can fix them and they're surprisingly well built.
