Surely any saving in fuel will be lost in boiling the kettle for the water, and if you are metered in the water itself?

Only a fool would pour boling water on a freezing screen (although I have seen it done :eek: ) Cold tap water will do as it is warmer than the ice, metered water is not expensive anyway is it?

Eh? Who mentioned pouring it on the screen? OP wants us to fill 2 hot water bottles.

Apologies, got confused with another thread, the water may have already been hot and in a tank from the previous evening to fill the water bottles.

If I notice the windows are frozen when I take Dog MKII for walkies first thing, I pop a fan heater on the seat and plug the extension in the porch.

30 minutes of that whilst I have breakfast defrosts all the windows and warms the inside, for about 15p.

I'm sure it would use a lot more than 15p of fuel waiting for them to clear.

Deicer in the trigger spray bottles (not aerosols) work good. I don't scrape either. Spray it on and leave for a few minutes before wiping off with a cloth. Only problem I have it the screen clouding up on the inside when the blowers are on.

I've got a better idea.

Go to bed and don't get up again until Spring.

With the new car I am getting soon I can turn on the heating in it and the defrost function from an app on my phone, then go back to bed for another 10 minutes. By the time I am ready it will be all thawed and cosy.

What about de-icer spray?

Yes the ammonia it contains may interact dubiously with your body work, but it also makes it double as an effective self-defence spray in case there's a bit of road rage. I didn't say that.
