Alternatively, all I need is a hand dryer type set up.
We already have fans blowing at the wind screen from the ventilation system, so all they have to do is add an in-line electric heating element.
My car already has that setup. It doesn't half draw some juice though and won't work with the engine off.0 -
I think the BMW system stores engine coolant in a type of thermos flask. When the car is next started this "heated" coolant is released through a heat exchanger that passes through the windscreen air flow, to demist the windscreen.
This probably has limited impact on an iced windscreen though.0 -
My old Ford Focus had one of the heated windscreens from page 1 of this thread. It was the best thing ever.Pants0

Had privacy glass in the back of mine, a couple of times I folded the back seats up, shoved the drivers' seat forward and used the back as an impromptu changing room....and I'm 6'2".
If they did a 1.8/2l Jazz, I really don't think I'd ever need to own another car...The 1.4's still just a little sluggish when heavily loaded.
Mrs has the 1.4 "sport" which is pretty sluggish compared to my 2.2 diesel civic!0 -

I think the Ford heated windscreen set up is the neatest solution. All the heat is used to heat the windscreen, so not wasting energy. Much more useful than a lot of other optional extras. I wish they would put them in cheaper cars.0 -
Just cover the windscreen, it's much easier0

The Minis that entered the Monte Carlo Rally in 1960's had electrically heated windscreens. Minis are pretty cheap.
You can still get them for classic minis (and many other classic cars.)0 -

If you normally have enough hot water left over after making tea to fill a water bottle, then you are boiling far too much water and wasting money.0 -

It is ... but it was subject to patent restriction for a lot of years, and even then was only initially available in the top end Ford models (like the Ghia).0 -
