The opening post on this thread should be compulsory reading for all those prospective BTL landlords who just see all the advantages without understanding any of the possible downsides.0

not to mention that the current landlord will continue to pursue him for the arrears.......
rightly so IMO and of course this will not go away and will chase him in the long termWould he get help from the council though since he's intentiakky made himself homeless by not paying his rent? I know there are children involved but perhaps only the children will be found beds. I really don't know.
He's living in cloud cuckoo land at the moment which wouldn't be so bad if it was just him but it's not.
The defaults might not be such a big deal unless he's had any CCJs awarded against him depending on how thorough the credit check on the next place is. It's whether or not his current LL gives him an honest reference that will be a problem. Then again he might get lucky and find one of those daft LL who don't bother referencing people.
The council have that legal obligation to house people ( rightly or wrongly ) and cant see children homeless . Its fair to say the children arnt to blame but then how do you get a parent to be held accountable without punishing the children ? a rock and hard place.
He presently doesnt have any ccj`s as in the past i got him to pay them off when he was in a better financial position ( hes a roofer )0 -
The replies ignore the position of the landlord as the question is not from the landlord. Landlord is mentioned as being a "BIG landowner", not the OP.
Unfortunately for these children involved seems they will take the brunt of this guy learning the lesson he is about to get. Hopefully they will have some aunts/uncles/grandparents nearby who will be able to take them in when the brown stuff hits the fan?
Yes , defo not me . He used to live next to me and we became friends .
He has fallen out with everyone and simply owes money to everyone everywhere ( including myself ) so has burnt those bridges ,jjlandlord wrote: »OK, I need more coffee this morning...
Id say ......
I am not the landlord . I do not own half the country !!! given theres the church and royalty who seem to own everything then i will leave you to work out which but either way im not a pope or a king so im out of it .
But back on topic any additional info would be welcomed given if i can soften the blow of whats to come then at least i would have done my good deed for the day .0 -
I don't know what on earth you expect here.
You have clearly explained/warned him of potential consequences.
He is ignoring you, and the consequences.
You've had your fears confirmed here.
But if as you say he won't listen, no matter how much extra detail we give you around the process, potential timescales etc he's not going to sudenly go "Oh well, in that case......"
The guy has his head buried firmly in the sand.
Don't get involved. He'll learn in due course.0 -

Not so if someone makes themselves intentionally homeless. For example not paying the rent could class you as intentionally homeless whether you have children or not. You can use the Shelter Emergency Housing Rights Checker to find out...

Its this .
At some point i will get a call , its bound to be me given he has almost no-one else to call . This will be the bailiff knocking his door off the hinge and kicking him out . He will seek my assistance and help .
When this happens i want to be prepared and ready to assist in an appropriate manner that will be best for the kids and him and his mrs . I want to be able to help ( with advise only ) as best as possible . This mire storm is coming and i dont know when . If i could find a time scale it may help hence this thread .0 -

Wow
I didnt know that . Thank you , i will defo pass that information on :T0 -
Approx how long will it be expected before hes finally kicked out ?
If he's canny, he'll take-up with a woman with a 'special needs' kid under 5, in which case he'll be living in the property rent-free until the summer.0 -
Now this may get me banned but I'm happy for taxpayers money to be spent looking after the kids (innocent, not their fault..) but IMHO he can go find a damp, cold, park bench on the basis of the info we've been given...
Pour encourage les autres....
Anyone else??0 -
A few heavies and they can be gone in a matter of hours.0
