Hi everyone! GQ you could write one of those Confessions of a Hoarders book! Hope the head is much better.
Mavvy well done! If any of my relatives had done that to me ref gifts they'd have been wearing it where the sun doesn't shine!!!!!
Getting mojo back slowly as you all help me soooo much - thank you.
Will there be a new thread next year?
Love to all xxxx0 -
Afternoon all.
Have a wee visitoid whilst the lunch things are being cleared away by the sous chef (hi Dad!) and then I shall go forth and attempt baking.
Mum and I went to the shop for a few bits and on the way in we were discussing this baking and she asked me what kind of pastry I liked to cook? Cue rueful grin and the admission I was planning to Jus-Rol it. Well, the price of fats, it's as economical a way as anything else.
In putting the shopping away, the rest of the family were cooing happily over the off-room, as if it was some kind of miracle. I'm the only member of the family with what passes for organisational skills, the rest are much beloved muddlers.
Found there was a flattish box containing a wok support which came with the new gas stove earlier this year. I suggested donating it; this is a wok-less household and likely to remain so as no one likes furrin food bar me, and I don't live here. But it can't be got rid off because it came with the stove.....!
This will be the inaugral baking session in this oven and things are a bit dubious, so it may or may not be successful. I'm keeping it simples with cherry buns (glace cherry glut) and mince tart (mincemeat glut and a lot easier than individual pies).
Righty, off to track down t'pie plate and the bun tins and to experiment with the placing of the shelves. We have Qual St tins cleared ready for loading with the goodies.
Cover me ladies, I'm going in.........!:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Loving the anecdotes, thanks everyone! Jinny, the story about making a citizens arrest to explain the bump had me in stitches, a bit like GQ's head?!
Tibawo, I also need to kondo the evening internet / TV lethargy. No idea how it crept up on me, possibly a rebellion against stressful job (looking for down-time but over-doing that too). I cannot do much Kondo-ing for the next few weeks but am going to set about it again with a vengeance as soon as poss. I have done plenty but there are more areas / categories to do and I can definitely re-visit some, as many have.
Has anyone else found they get a bit anxious about clutter now, that they never noticed or bothered about before? Again, may be because work stress was really affecting me so other things got out of proportion?
I also have to make plans for survival after redundancy - need to do some paid work (thinking about possibilities at the mo) and want to make some changes to lifestyle so as to include more interesting and uplifting experiences (nothing fancy, just more nice country walks, visits to historic places and so on). Planning on doing some decorating when the time is right - I think a few of us have been inspired as a result of KM i) making space to enable physical action of decorating... ... !!!, and ii) wanting more joyous surroundings! So although I am against New Years resolutions on principle () I find that I am looking forward to the year ahead and I shall probably be making some LISTS to get my thoughts in order
It's been lovely being part of this KM community and I hope we can continue on our merry way in 2016!
Best wishes everyone,
M
PS- have kondo'd all the left overs (there weren't many because I didn't over buy!) and have not bought anything AT ALL in the sales. Came close but reflected before clicking the buy button and thought, NO, don't need that, need the space more. Thank you Marie Kondo.I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -

Oh, that made me smile - and it probably would have been me before I read Marie Kondo. Because at some unspecified future date, there's a remote possibility that the stove might be sold and it'll be rendered unsaleable/useless without the wok stand. Yup!
Good luck with the buns, GQ.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
90% of my tops are sitting on the bed, which I've just changed, and as soon as the heating has warmed the house up, I'm going through them. I can't quite express how good that feels! Thank you Kondoites2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Baking is coming to an end and is a success. The biggest success was getting past the hump of being scared to do baking for the first time in this oven (they've had this stove at least 6 months btw).
The buns (chuck everything in the kenny and mix is slooowkly with the K hook) went well, even though quantities were very 'proximate.
Mum (perusing Mrs Beeton) It says a gill of milk. How much is a gill?
Me Dunno, I went to school in metric tyme.
Mum Didn't you used to have a list of measurements in one of your schoolbooks?
Me But I left school 35 years ago!
Mum Even longer ago for me. Oh burger it, I'm just going to slosh some in and hope for the best.
We had 3 dozen buns (4 missing now), a mincemeat tart and a cherry pie and an apricot turnover. The cherry pie was a late addition to the game and no one knew where the pie funnel was, so I used an egg-cup.
Which hefted the pie crust up too high and has resulted in a slightly-charred effect like that mountain in Close Encounters........:rotfl:
We're gonna have it for afters with custard, it's worth it for the humour alone. And Mum has got past The Fear of the Stove and now there is talk of other baking to come. She's particularly impressed with Jus-Rol as has been having pastry-probs (hot hands) so expect the profits of that company to spike in the coming year.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I'm a Jusrol fan too GQ - I can cook pretty much anything but pastry so I'm quite happy with pre-prepared & so is DH.
Went for a little sail today with 4 friends - lovely & sunny but cold. Took the boat back to the marina (not my boat - helping to crew for a friend) & between us we managed to kondo the remains of 5 bottles of wine - hasten to add only 1 was full and i had lemonade - honestly!! Empties in the bottle bank & now home to cook lamb steaks for DH with spring greens as a welcome change from all the turkey.
Do hope this thread continues into 2016 & we can keep up the momentum (or not)
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
