My life tends to be like one of the sillier sit-coms any day of the week, never mind at Chaos Central, aka the family home. I've long since given up any idea of personal dignity, the proverbial banana skins are all around me.
Also found in the off-room was an unopened pkt of Shredded Weet, BB Sept 2013 and enough dead biros to equip a school. I've comandeered (with permission) all pencils of less than half original length, to use up in t'office.
I've taken three ice-cream tubs and two oblong tins of writing implements down to a single tin and a trayful of Misc. Some of the things there Might Be Important but we're presently not quite sure what they are/ where they belong. Thinking on, thinking on........Oh, and there is a single lego brick. The youngest 'child' in the household is late forties and there will always be a solitary lego brick in any collection of bric a brac which surfaces here. We only ever had one box of it between us, back in the early seventies (cue sad violins....).
At least the T0nka Toy and special needs Action Men have long-since been rehomed.:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Loved reading along today.
I've re-started my journey. Today I sorted out the two drawers under the bed which house Christmas cards, wrapping paper and a few decorations. I've thrown a few bits out and reorganised, the drawers look much better now. I sorted out the Christmas decorations last year and made a promise to myself not to purchase any new ones this year, I haven't so when the decorations come down in a day or two they will be returned to the cupboard where I know they will fit.
I've also made a start on toiletries, I have a bag of stuff I'll never use to take to a local charity who provide start-up packs for people being re homed.
A charity bag and a black bag of rubbish, not bad for thirty minutes work.

List of some of the Misc recovered from the off-room; a travel soap, two mismatched candles in votive holders (no one has ever seen these before), two doofers off the ends of anorak drawstrings, bits of sock yarn, a dustcap off a pushbike tyre, 11 meat skewers, 10 twisty-ties, a plastic sprig of holly off an Xmas cake one year (and a santa-on-sleigh plastic cake ornament which is over 45 years old), a caster cup, a lego brick (red), a makeup brush, a mini jamjar containing cooking oil (?), an emery board, several erasers and set squares, a metal ruler, a dozen craft knives, a quik-unpick, a pair of shears, some hanks of string (natural and man-made) plus utitlity rope, shoe-laces (odd laces), a carepenters' pencil, several coloured pencils from the 1970s, a suite of biros from banks no one banks with, a hair bobble, a set of EPNS cake forks in the original box, bits of cardboard off cereal boxes, buttons, a farthing, a decimal ha'penny, a US cent, a 100 peseta piece and a plastic £1 coin.......... :rotfl:
Weird. Particularly worrying is the stuff no one has apparently ever seen before in their lives and we live/ lived here. We've also found a marble if anyone has lost one. A single marble, like a single lego brick, is almost a compulsory item in the bric a brac. We've also lost Wild Thing, the lairier of the two family mogs. Her sister, the Queen of Sheba, has spent the day on the sofa but WT has rocked up every few hours for grub then done a runner again. Simply isn't cold enough for the little beggar to stay inside.
My head hurts, not sure if it's the beaning I took about 24 hours ago or tiredness or an incipient cold, but there you go.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Loved the chat on here today
I bought some wrapping paper today in the sales - I do actually need it for next year, so it was 'allowed'Unfortunately it came with some tags (I have enough to last the next decade, I'm sure!) but they'll get used up eventually!
Buying the wrapping paper meant I could finish sorting the underbed storage box which holds all the Xmas wrap/ cards/ tags/ bags etc. I got absolutely everything out from under our bed, gave it a really good vacuum and then put the Xmas box back. I then sorted through the same size box which holds birthday paper/ bags/ tags/ balloons/ party invites/ plastic tablecloths/ badges/ candles etc. DS2 is 10 next week, so I dug out/ found in there a holographic 10 badge still on card (although I think I gave it to DS1 and then put it back on the card!!), 'happy birthday' and '10' candles for the cake, balloons and birthday banners, wrapping paper and tags. I also sorted out his presents under there and sorted cards and presents for a joint 7th bday party in 2 weeks from the stashI'm trying to run down my stash - I'm not buying any 'random' presents any more - the only presents which will be making their way under the bed will be for specific people or those which people in this house don't want and which are suitable for re-gifting (usually the boys manage to get a duplicate of something) The remaining stash was all sorted into storage boxes under there and 4 empty storage boxes are now sat on the landing to make their way out to the garage for ebay packaging
I then vacuumed my bedroom really well to make sure all the glitter and tiny bits of Xmas paper/ ribbon/ adornments (I wrap in my room) have now all gone:T
I may manage my underwear (still all nice and neat and I'm 99.9% sure it's all joyful) before schools go back, but I have decided to leave the rest of my clothes until I have a quiet house again next week. As OH works away in London I can even leave it out overnight one night if necessary. I think that this time my 'joy-meter' is more attuned, so I am sure I can get rid of more things which passed muster last time. :j
I have a suitcase (passed on to me by my nan on Xmas Eve for me to get rid of ?!?) filling up nicely with random komono which will be going off to the CS tomorrow morningAnd a carrier bag of food items to drop off for food bank

No Kondoing done as we've had invites to various friends/ family. Joyous Christmas presents received - new gardening gloves and a shiny new pair of secateurs and some vouchers for the local chandlery. DH has had his favourite tipple and two led inspection lights for when he's ferreting about in the bowels of an engine! I also had a stuffed cat :eek: apparently it's Freddy, the Shipwrecked Cat. DS1 bought it for me so I could have a ships cat!! Just as well it will be on the boat
Need to get some reduced Christmas cards sometime as I've been nowhere near any shops since last Wednesday and I'm still trying to avoid them
Hope you are all ready to Kondo in 2016Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
I can't wait to start revisiting some categories, I know there is more to go.
I went to a friends tonight for drinks, and offered to bring some food. When I Kondoed the freezer I inventoried everything and have (mostly) kept on top of it, so I knew there was some frozen ready-to-cook party food - last year's, but I thought it would be fine. Except when I looked, one said 'best before Dec 2012' and the other one said 2011 .... It's been in my freezer for FOUR YEARS! I did not take it to the party. Note to self: next time you tidy the freezer, check the dates!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
Merry Christmas and a happy, clutter-free New Year to you all!
Away at the folks' so no home kondoing for me this past 6 days. Heading home today so I shall be back on the clutter case.
I have mostly been decluttering yummy food this week, and seeing family and friends which has been lovely.
I now have to get brain back into gear for two days of work before the 3 day weekend."Does it spark joy?" - Marie Kondo

Grey Queen, hope your head is healing well.
Mavvy , congratulations on your swim. Always found Cromer to be the coldest place on the planet in winter! Also pleased that you were able to stand up to people re their fussiness over presents. How very dare they.
Made a decision earlier in the month that I wasn't going to be pushed around by rellies and if they can't be nice they can clear out of my life.
Had a lovely few days with OH and his family. Happy to be home alone for the next three so I can get on with Kondoing. Found a couple of saucepans I didn't know I had when getting meat dish out of cupboard so very much looking forward to clearing out kitchen. Can't wait to be rid of crockery set as I've always disliked it, but need to get something new first. Plan to have a revamp of whole kitchen in the spring which is why Kondoing started in the first place as it means bashing down a wall in a very small space.
Did manage to have a freezer sort out and have put all the older items which need using up first in one drawer and all the new things have been labelled with date of freezing (all HM as don't buy ready made frozen food).Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅0 -
So with KD as part of my new life journey I thought I would start to plan my aspirations for my year ahead. Apart from KD I want to get the other parts of my life reined in as well. Instead of vegging in front of the TV we could have been to the library and sorting out the girls badges for Brownies/Guides but this lack of mojo is appealing and I don't want it to become a habit for the kids too.
Just started my debt free diary as they have been creeping up on me and I need to get control whilst they are manageable. Hoping this tact will help me focus and KD them.
The house is untidy at the moment as we tidy instead of put presents away. The decorations will start to come down in this process as we start to find a home for everything.
Good thoughts to all.Don’t put it down - put it away!
