Got pages to catch up on, but I just wanted to say I saw a teapot called Terry yesterday at a bowls club - no-one knew how he'd got there but he was treated well. Made me think of Gary :D.

VJsmum I love that idea ad, someone posted it on a Christmas thread I frequent. It sums up what Christmas should be about.
Need to go up in the attic and check the deccys, and have some sewing I want to finish.

For those of you talking about making photobooks, this is an ideal time. There are always offers and discounts available on the run up to Christmas.

My mins game has slowed right down but I'm adding to my list as and when I can. It looks like it will become a two month project, but I don't mind if it is having the desired effect. I have taken the Chrimble decs out of the attic because I know there are things there that can go to the chazza, and I want them to go soon so they have fair chance to sell them.

Two areas where I am seeing solid progress is toiletries (I'm on a miniatures using up spree) and food (shopping from home, build a list around that and using up things that we have had in for ages).

I'm another one with lots of "little" things wrong that add up and add up and make my life miserable ... been investigated this year for CFS and I agreed with their diagnosis that I don't have it. I *do* have chronic fatigue, just not the syndrome. It's burnout, basically.

I'm definitely retiring in August next year, and I'm convinced that soon after I do, I'll regain my age-appropriate strength (I'll be 61 by then) and I'll be fine. Comparatively! I'm doing what work comes my way right now (max 10 hours a week, usually 8), but I've had almost no social life at all over the last year, between my stuff and other people's stuff. In a way, I don't mind, I'm just glad to feel confident of getting my outgoing life back next August, and until then I'm okay with pootling about on the web and getting the house back the way I want it (that went by the board too).

It's surprising the turns that life takes, but its a lot better than the alternative!

Thanks greyqueen, will look for Jane Asher pud in pooundllland. Poor Jane , lucky us.
Carolbee, so sorry for the loss of your much loved pet. They are family aren't they? Big hug X.
Jinny - I also live in a flat and sometimes buy the candles which makes crackling sounds like a log fire . You can also play log fire noises on you tube. Yes I know it isn't the real thing haha but sometimes it is just what I want to hear.
I managed to avoid a charity shop purchase yesterday and in days gone by I would definitely have bought......a pair of red shoes with a strap. Now I dearly love shoes with a strap. Precious Gollum. They were a perfect fit, lovely and comfy ( I get sore feet from running in new shoes), perfect little heel.....but they were of course red. Not brown or black. So I left for someone else to cherish.
I also dropped off a bag with 2 nice tops and some jewellery.
Apart from popping into two charity shops, I went for a lovely walk then had a pot of tea and slice of cake in a community centre and was joined by my DD, son in law and dear little baby grandson so I felt that my day was very blessed. I also went to 3 libraries, the first to drop my books off and the other 2 just for a change and because they were near my walk. Things have been difficult and sad at work this past week with a job cut in our team which we hadn't expected. Yesterday, a day of beautiful sunshine and cold crisp air, made me remember what is important in life. To top it all, I came home to find that my sweet DH had changed our bed, which was wonderful as he always irons the bedding so nicely and it is such a treat to admire it and then ah the joy of climbing in at night. Bliss.
Beautiful day again here so after some food shopping from a short list, I am going to walk by the sea.

Well, er, I, er, haven't finished the cd relocation into a big dvd wallet because, er, who knew we had so many?!

there were LOTS of 80's ones I don't recall ever having seen, never mind heard - DH confessed that he'd bought a few last year.

We had cds in two units that were on opposite sides of the room. Have emptied one and half of the other. Will finish before lunch today. Phew.

Am hoping to get rid of one of the storage units but not rushing the decision in case it can be re-purposed when the back bedroom of doom is progressed.

However, that means that the DVD'S remain in bulk in a cupboard. Off to Argos for another wallet so I can get them sorted next! ::)

What did the kondo-ing reveal? What we all know - we cannot appreciate what we have it is not accessible and correctly located. I realised that I hadn't listened to my cds for ages yet only one got culled (a dreadful xmas songs from the shows, type of muzak, no idea how we came by it).
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

Karmacat, I understand you looking forward to next August but don't put things on hold till then. If you can add to your life one thing that you enjoy, that you don't do now, start today or this week! Remember the simple joyful things like a walk in the park on a sunny day, a coffee with friends, taking some home baking to a busy family or single friend, can all give you a boost even while you have to take care not to over-do things because of varying energy levels.

I have been guilty of putting things off and denying myself simple pleasures because of some pending event that becomes a sort of barrier, but for no real reason. I think the woo of MK is helping me focus on joy even in the midst of other difficult family things swirling rouud about.

Warm wellbeing thoughts to all who need them :happyhear:happyhear

I have been looking for an evening class to broaden my skills or knowledge, would that be something you'd enjoy? [I haven't found anything that has taken my fancy yet though, bit limited where I live :(]

(((( 0 )))) mothershipton. You have a lot going on and it soumds like you are taking it all on yourself. There's no subtle way to suggest this, and please forgive me if you've already talked about it, but many (all?) students do some paid work as well....... and they can certainly help support aged rellies, and indeed the children.
I too am at risk of redundancy but I am in the fortunate position of having no mortgage (the benefit of having a tiny house, bought years ago) and a DH who is working, albeit that he is on a low wage. I hope your work situation becomes clearer and less worrisome soon.

Can you kondo some of the responsibilty (not suggesting you throw the kids out!), maybe encourage the inlaws to get a few hours a week of domestic or personal help. Maybe they could ask for a social services needs assesment if they are struggling with personal care?

on the subject of xmas presents, yes it is disappointing to get rubbish presents, but some of them will be from people who meant well so take the sentiment and re-gift the gift! I told my brother and SIL to stop sending us presents after they sent us a salad bowl one year:rotfl: We buy for their kids and enjoy seeing them open the presents. As has been discussed before on here, perhaps suggest this to family, no more pressies for adults, just buy for the kids. You save money and so do your rellies. Probably too late for this year but perhaps moot it now, rather than after you get a naff pressie, to avoid any offence being taken? ;).

Hope your day, and our fellow kondo-ites, has some joy in it.

Thanks M, i think I have made it sound worse than it is. We have paid off our mortgage which is the reason that OH could go to college. He is doing counselling which means he also needs to do placements and yes we have had the why cant you work a bit but we dont really get anywhere as he obviously doesnt want to! Plus he gets really annoying when he is stressed so it just isnt worth the hassle!

The inlaws dont need physical care but just need help with making phone calls and generally sorting their life out!

I tried last year to suggest we didnt get gifts but didnt get anywhere. I suppose not buying gifts for anyone would sort the problem out!

I went into our local town yesterday where they were switching on the christmas lights and all the shops had christmas music on and it drove me crazy.

Off to Liverpool today to see The Waterboys which should be joyful and I will try to enjoy our family day out.

Yesterday I tried to finish off the handles on the cod, which I'd had to abandon on Thursday, going well until I came to the handle that had been super glued on coz it kept falling off
It wasn't budging so started to hack with a knife around the join and then had to hit with the pliers like a hammer and chisel!! Well it came off but the resulting mess wasn't pretty! So I've had to fill the gouges with filler and leave till today to sand and paint and attach the handles :j hooray
Last night was a rather boozy affair with family at sisters house, which has resulted in a lazy day today ;)
Hope everyone is well and having a good weekend the weather is very cold but sunny and have actually had washing out!
