with regards to body lotion, this might sound a bizarre one but someone might use it to make Halloween potions. We went to a Harry Potter wizard school event and they used lotion as a base. Obviously gave it a creepy name though!

purpleposting4 I will let you into a secret I worked in an out going call centre :rotfl::rotfl: I also kondoed it :) I was there about 2 months I hated it.
I went out for lunch one day and it was a hot sunny lovely day and I just thought to myself I just cant do one more day there :( I just got the train home and was on the beach before the lunch hour ended :)

My supervisor rang when I was 1 min late back from lunch (thats how petty they were) And snapped your late where are you ? I just said on the beach and I maybe even later than you thought back ;) She ranted on and I just put the phone down she kept ringing but I ignored it.

That place was filled with lovely people just there until something better came along.Everybody hated the job and it was just so sad working there. They paid really well but the turnover of staff was shocking.

So well done for getting out when you did :) Something much more joyful will come along for you soon I am sure.

:) I'm so glad I work in an inbound call centre not an outbound one. People interact with us of their own free will, rather than being disturbed at their own home whilst going about other business. Must be soul-destroying for those people doing it for a living, I'm not surprised the turnover is rapid.

Have just had a call from Mum; parental car is loaded (this took some considerable time) and is now incoming. Barring traffic holdups, they should be here in less than an hour and then we can have the joyful fun off unloading it all into my micro flat. I shall get them to dump it all on my bed as an interim measure, so we have room to move in the tiny sitting-room for their visit.

:D Gonna be fun getting that lot re-homed (not!) the things I do for family............ but it's in a cause of the greater good and hopefully the items being released will bring joy into the lives of their new owners.

I sometimes think my life is mainly down to logistics, arranging the transportation of Stuff from A to B (with detours to the rest of the alphabet most days). OK, some of it is necessary, consumables like grub and TP don't grow at home like dust bunnies, but a lot of it is avoidable, and, in future, I plan to avoid as much Stuff as possible.

    Onwards!

  • Mavvy I have somehow avoided working in a call centre so far, inbound I think I would manage, outbound I know I couldn't. I always feel so sorry for the people that do and am always polite (although v firm) in saying no. Same with chuggers, those in the street I don't mind so much but the ones at the door! Grrrrrrr, I've started just saying I'm too ill to talk and closing the door.

GQ excellent progress! Sounds like a real turning point, best of luck with the loft-busting :D

I looked at the royal mail link last night, they really have made it as awkward as possible. While I realise they are completely commercial now it does rankle that customers are given the runaround.

A friend is off work ill so that might have kondo'd my afternoon/evening. Yesterday I finished off pretty things instead of cleaning so I better get some done this morning. I don't think I could cope with my energy levels if I hadn't decluttered and kondo'd my living space. While I can't keep up with the housework, at least it's not useless carp or kibble that's holding me back :)

Thank you for this post, and to the others who commented as well to say they couldn't do outbound calls. Definitely not a job for me, it was making me ill. Your post made me smile, so thank you! :)

I am feeling a lot better about things this morning and know I made the right decision. I received an email from my supervisor giving me the usual 'you were doing really well' spiel, even saying my 'hit rate was very high and they were impressed' but I think I just dropped lucky with a couple of retired chaps that day who were happy to talk about their cars! Nothing would change my mind there.
Something else will turn up, I am looking each day. I haven't ruled out an inbound call centre yet, but I couldn't work in a complaints department either lol! Luckily we don't receive many calls from companies, and I can't remember the last time I had a cold call, but I would make sure I was nice to the caller, find out which company they were (to get my details removed) and then ask them to press the X button folowed by the Refusal button on their screen! :D

    Yep :)

I have a workshop this morning and then the 11 hour flight home to look forward to. With my restless legs....

Packing did take less time than usual. Probably because the suitcase isn't stuffed to bursting point. Didn't wear most of it, but that's better than running out of clothes!

40 minutes till pickup, so need to eat breakfast, put my makeup on, finish packing, get dressed and check out. Oh and leave my luggage as I have a bigger gap than anticipated before my flight, so am coming back into the city for lunch :D

Morning, Konverts! (Well, it is for the next 10 minutes! :rotfl:

Thanks for all the inspiring posts, and the 2 thought-provoking links!

I have long-thought that too much choice (and disposable income) is bad for us, and I can no longer look at/read US kondoing vids or blogs. A lot of self-delusion going on in the US re: kondoing, me thinks, along with some Konverts on UK threads, which I've kondoed. Not here, thank goodness! ;) The posters on here an example to MK herself! :D

I despair of younger generations, who have grown up with ridiculously overblown expectations - "we are worth it/ we deserve it/ we can afford it" et cetera. :(

No wonder people were happier in the 50s and 60s. They were content with modest homes, whatever space they had in them, employment with fixed hours and hardly ever brought home, and leisure time for enjoyable hobbies, interests, family and friends.

Today, we are Human Resources, to be driven and burdened in employment, and paid enough to consume deliberately invented carp, and over-indulge in unhealthy, stultifying pastimes. :(

All this 'choice' in our lives, surrounds us with unnecessary clutter, the accompanying physical and mental stress, and heaps of responsibilities we can live better without. :(

Religion used to be the opium of the masses, which brought happiness and contentment to some, but rabid consumption only benefits the moguls. :(

    Rant over! ;)

A bit more 'twin woo' there, iTwin! :rotfl:

In my early youth I went to work in a factory, as a stripper! I thought a mindless job, with piped radio, and clocking in/out, was the ideal. (I was stripping 1/2in off the end of 2,400 wires on armatures for telephony!) I managed 2 days, but on the 3rd day, I went out to the Polish Delicatessen for smoked liver sausage and cheesecake for lunch, and never went back! Woo! :D

In desperation, (in middle-age) I applied to work at a BT call centre and got an interview. I passed the the geography test (recognising place names and the naming the counties where they were sited), and was given a tour of the centre. The monitors hanging from the ceiling, flashing the average time taken for each enquiry, put me off. :o

Back in the interview office, I pulled out the letter, inviting me to the interview, and pointed out that it didn't give a very professional impression of the company... the opening greeting was typed to someone other than me, and had been struck out by hand, with my name replacing the original name! Didn't get the job. :rotfl:

I'm surprised you lasted 2 months in your call centre, mav, - judging by the way you 'chat' to your cold-callers! :rotfl:

Congrats again, mrs-moneypenny! We've gotta admire your tenacity! :D

I've managed to cut my punnet hoard by half, but forgot to get them into the RC bag for this morning's collection! Never mind, a good start for next week's bag. :)

Also, 2 RC sacks, jam-packed with identifiable papers and other burnable crud, have left the house and are temporarily in the shed, pre-bonfire. :)
    ***********************
Continued: after 2 looong phone calls, and postie brought me an invitation to visit the Outpatient Clinic again, in a couple of weeks. Another 270 mile round trip. :(

Time was when I (very rarely) used to visit the GP, when the children had something that I, or the pharmacist, couldn't deal with. I'm getting really cheesed off with the way all these health appointments are interfering with my life. I have no intention of adopting poor health as a new hobby! Quality, not quantity.

Gonna do some knitting, till I'm :dance:again! :D

    Needs, NOT wants!
No food waste since November 2010. :j
    No debts.
