Afternoon Konverts and Newbies! :coffee:
lollyfin: There are quite a few Konverts on here, who have 'finished' the kondo process. (I'm not one of them!) But, they have realised that continued watchfulness is necessary, to prevent un-joyful excess sneaking back into our homes and lives. (And they obviously, they like the company!)
The kondo process really does change our view of life, not only in our homes, but in wider areas too. Some Konverts have discarded unhealthy relationships, unjoyful jobs, unjoyful memorabilia (and memories), as well as all the carp that is really not needed - and their lives are lighter now. :j
There is definitely a 'woo factor' in this process, because we have to really think about what makes us happy, and what doesn't. This leads us to giving more thought to many aspects of our lives, and de-clutters our minds.
The biggie that crops up time and again, is the new time available for enjoyment.
I've been thinking (yes, again!)
Time is the only thing of real value to us. We do not know how long we have in life, and it is continually getting shorter, moment by moment. So, we need to spend our time carefully, on the people and activities that bring us most joy.
I've been kondoing since Christmas, and still haven't reached 'the tipping point' yet.
I know why this is. First, there have been longstanding and new RL problems, which have taken over and cluttered my head. But, after a focussed start, I have slipped into a haphazard mode, which does not work!
Now that the RL problems are on hold and simply awaiting resolution, over which I no longer have any control, I can forget them So. I'm going to begin again.
I'm glad to say that my original kondoing is still tidy and organised - I can still open the drawers and gain inspiration from my 'folding and filing'. :rotfl:
So, all you lovely Konverts, who have finished and have stuck around to offer support and laughs, please keep at it. MK is brilliant, but without the support on this thread, many of us would not be able to keep going. Thank you! :T
The washing machine has finished - I'm still behind with the laundry, but there are several items from the 'maybe' clothes pile in there, which I have 'test worn' and that will be going straight into the CS bag, when dry! :rotfl:
Have a joyful Sunday! :dance:Needs, NOT wants!
No food waste since November 2010. :j

I began my Kondo journey in January 2015 and thought I was being generous expecting it to take 6 months.....The first flurry of chucking out old knickers and folding t shirts was deeply satisfying and inspiring! But I found that the process definitely does have a woo factor. I Kondoed an unjoyful job and my joyful part-time job suddenly became FULLTIME! With more income!! Things I have let go because they were unjoyful, trusting that what I need will come along WERE replaced in the strangest ways, usually unexpectedly through the grapevine. Much Joy has been brought into my home and a bunch of horrilbe unjoyful carpp has left, I have found the process to be contagious, my grown up children finding their own joy in their own lives when they read and applied the KM ideas. I have Kondoed people that were not good for me and take much better care of how and( who with) I spend my time. Yes, I value the people and things and time I do have, more than I did before, and I LOVE the space I do have in my life.
All that said, I am not finished the process! I am in the middle of PAPERWORK, and have been for a while...this where I have hit big blocks and things that need to be dealt with that require TIME and Energy. I am still gonig, but this category has been the hardest and perhaps the most emotional. I have had to let go some of those lifelong asperations that I am never going to achieve.(You will all have your own and know how hard this is ) I suspect that Sentimental will not be so hard for me after I complete Paperwork ,as much of what is paperwork to me, is actually Sentimental.
So onwards and upwards. With NO time limits,I continue. 6 months had seemed a long time to me at the beginning to get my life in order, but now I realise that when RealLife gets in the way, I just have to go with the flow! It IS a journey, not a destination...looking forward to hitting any kind of tipping point, but I am enjoying the journey meantime. THANKS TO ALL WHO POST AND SUPPORT US ALL:beer:0 -

Dd2 on a brownie trip today so about to blitz the house with dd1 and then continue with her yes boxes in her room; she moves faster when I work with her!
She is terrible, she came shopping with me and the woman nearby was chuckling when she came with three packets of lip balms all with about four in to see what I thought of them. My comment about how many lips and how much kissing she does was completely lost on her. Then I was forced to check out the shower gels. Normally I'm thru in thirty mins, even if dd2 comes but dd1 is a completely different story.Don’t put it down - put it away!

Sorted out my pantry style cupboard in the kitchen today. The stuff inside was already Kondoed (although I did find more snubbed cat food to give to the shelter - I swear my cat hoards the stuff :rotfl:) so it was just shelf rearranging. But the results are quite joyful.
That cupboard would be a punnet hoarder's dream, as it's been done with slatted instead of proper shelves. So everything that's not a bulky box itself has to be put into trays/baskets/boxes (etc) so it doesn't fall through. I picked up a set of plastic shoeboxes from Sainsbobs last year that fit it perfectly though.
Mav, well done on the phone call. Still not missing the landline, I'm almost ready to Kondo the spare phone and cables. Have kept "in case" of emergencies, although that still seems sensible to me as they've been upgrading the mobile network around here over the past few weeks so we've been having a lot of outages.0 -
Someone mentiond about kondoing unjoyful jobs - well I've just started doing some casual work as a market researcher, and unfortunately my first shift this week and I'm cold calling people! And no, my name's not Lizzie! Really don't like it, as I know how I would feel if anyone rang me up, but at least I'm not selling anything, it is just market research. Definitley unjoyful, but feel I don't have a choice at the moment, as I'm trying to get back into work.
House is looking good though, just need to kondo this sore throat now before next week.0 -
Our first set of guests has arrived, accompanied by an unexpected but welcome fourth guest. Even the guest did not expect to stay, but witin minutes I found her a deodorant, toothbrush and pyjamas. She slept in dd1's bed, dd1 slept with us in our bed.
This morning we were up before the guests, and I managed to sneak into the guests' room and pick dds' clothes in the dark, without waking up the guests. Hurray for Kondo!
The guests brought sparkly stickers, 3d stickers, and card making supplies, so this afternoon my girls crafted and finished the stickersThe artwork is on display, and will be thrown away the minute the guests leave

iqueen and MyHappiness Project, huge 'hear, hear' to your posts! Both absolutely right - TIME is valuable and irreplaceable and that's what I've gained from this. Like MHP I gaily tossed old underwear out and thought 'this is easy, it won't take six months' :rotfl: er, that was in March I think! But I have made real progress and this week two friends who called round, separately, both said 'Wow, it's really tidy in here' on entering my kitchen. They're old friends who know me well, so it wasn't insulting - it made my heart sing!
Lollyfin, welcome to the thread - you have a lot of bedtime reading but it's worth it for helpful tips, links and feeling motivated. I reckon I'm 90% there - sentimental items and photos not touched yet, and clothes need a review, and there are still some areas where I've allowed komono to gather cos I was feeling indecisive. The benefits are immense - my drawers and cupboards are tidy, I can find things when I need them and filing is a doddle. Cleaning is so easy now, because the floors are clear. And I really do feel free and lighter, although sadly so far the excess weight has not been Kondoed!
I'm also getting on with jobs that I'd put off for ages - e.g filling in a chip on the skirting board which has annoyed me since it happened weeks ago, it took minutes because the decorating stuff is all tidy and organised. I'm not 100% there yet and there's a lot of revision to do, but this system really works.
I'm not joining in 'mins game' because I've tried the 'five minute fling' and similar before and it doesn't work for me - MK is the first time I've ever succeeded in clearing space and not filling it up again. Thanks to everyone who's helped on this journey. And Mavvymoo, I can't wait for my next cold caller - you're an inspiration!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0
