The KonMarie method

Had a fab time on our mini break. However, I am now spurred on to kondoe some weight. I got in one of them huge deck chair things and could not get out. I had to roll, drag myself to one end and then grab on the bar to get out. I felt so embarrassed, luckily there was no one around.
Just about to put the recycling out for collection and then Off to get my fringe cut and then to tackle my list. Hoping to record some CDs today so that can get next batch on eBay and out of the house. Can't believe that on some I only like one song!
I am having trouble with the ones I like but just not played for a long time. Will leave them till last whilst I decided.
Am sat here looking at ALL the dolls dd2 got out yesterday.. Half of me is mad that she did not put them away but the other part of me can tell they are laid out mid adventure so best not disturb them!Don’t put it down - put it away!

GQ - if you're not careful that carload of stuff your parents are bringing over will be larger than you anticipated! After all they're going to have to move things to do the gloss.
It's FREEZING cold here. All the windows open again to let the paint dry off/get the next lot painted. I have masses of work to do but am finding it very difficult to concentrate as its so cold. Maybe I should work on my donation piles. Or do some tidying. Or go for a walk. Or go and work in a coffee shop... (although that would probably add to the impression the builders have that I don't actually work...)

Currently, i should very much like to Kondo a 16 year old son
:rotfl:
Any takers? No? No - one?
Stroppy little (he's 6'1) s0d
We have had a row about the fact that it is non uniform day and he hasn't anything to wear - despite a drawer full of clothes. He doesn't like / won't wear / won't fit into any of those.....
Some drawer kondoing in his room later then
Right - I need to kondo some admin before tackling that painting.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

..... Starting with the ironing though, which I hate.
Well, that did not go according to plan! I developed osteoporosis in my 30's and had a fractured vertebra during a forceps delivery, which although healed has left me with backache after between 15 and 30 minutes of activity such as housework, standing washing dishes etc. I have a steam press to make ironing easier and reduce the sideways movement with a conventional iron.
Anyway, I turned it on and there was a flash, loud bang and smell of burning. I thought it must have blown the electrics, but other items were still on. I went back to it and the indicator light was still on and it was getting hot.
Inspired by the saying, I decided to give it a try, working through the clothes at record speed. All now done, switched it off but whether it will go on again is yet to be discovered. I think I will wait until someone else is here for support.0 -

I don't know if this helps, but when I was sorting paperwork (to be fair, this pre-dates Marie and started a year ago!) I only had energy to do it in spurts, like I'd get a good weekend and plow through loads. Then I'd take a few weeks off from it.
Loosely it ended up being these steps which finally made it work:
1. Get it all in one place. Put into cardboard boxes. Whew that was exhausting. Shut lids and ignore.
2. Get a few shoeboxes. Put into high level categories. Flat purchase. Statements (bank, utilities, etc.) Nice cards that I wanted to keep, etc.
At this point I wasn't focused on tossing, but just categorizing. Anything that was obviously not needed (advertising, sales) did go, however.
I found if I tried to follow the theory of 'only touch each piece of paper once' that I had once read, I didn't get very far! Plus, my brain seemed to freeze and become overwhelmed if I had to change gears and 'sort' and 'decision' at the same time.
3. Sub-sort the big categories. So I sorted the Statements box so that all council tax bills were together in a pile. All bank statements were together. All flat management statements etc.
4. Then discard. So it was easy to pick out any bank statement older than one year and discard, leaving the current year's to fit nicely into a folder.
I had one shoebox just related to my flat purchase, so it had all the emails from the estate agent, the survey, the acceptance letter and on and on. Since I was able to focus on only this topic and just had to think 'what do I need if I want to sell this flat in the future' it was easy to skinny it down to the essentials and not the extras like the back and forth correspondence on the offer price, just the final acceptance letter was kept, the survey results, etc.
That's where I failed previously, trying to sort through big piles which were a mixture of everything under the sun into final destination folders just didn't work for me.0 -
Morning, Girls! :coffee:
Caught up with some posts, but no time to do all, as I have to get ready for an appointment this morning.
Spent useful time my solicitor, yesterday - resolution comes closer! Then treated myself to Mr M's fish n chips and did a big grocery shop. Came home knackered, kondoed 4 apricots and 3 victoria plums, and fell asleep! :j
maman and dragonette: I'm adopting the staffroom quote as my mantra! Love it! Teachers are always swamped by paperwork, and 'collecting' Stuff that might be useful resources.
I have a full valance on the spare bed - it's a divan and I don't like the covering fabric, and yes, it has 4 drawers, all empty at present, because of the tight position of the bed. The drawers will be used for storing seasonal things, eventually, when I move the bed. So, the valance will be staying!
greent: buy the Christmas tags, and send joy to some special people! :j
Yesterday, I brought joy to quite a lot of people. I dropped a coin in a busker's empty guitar case, and he played Sitting on the dock of the bay. I thanked him and mentioned that it was a quite a sad song. He then started playing and singing It's a lovely day and almost everyone was dropping money in the case! Had to smile!
missyrichards: I have mostly black knicks and while some fine, others are quite new, but feel meh! I have found it annoying to end up wearing the meh ones, so when that happens, they go straight in the burning bag! Soon, I shall only have joyful ones and I may have to buy some new ones, too!
Often Konverts find that, having done clothes, it makes sense to sort out the rest of the bedroom. This gives us a tranquil retreat from the clutter elsewhere.
Following the categories is defintely the key, but my house is so over-Stuffed that it is driving me mad. I am going to try a pre-kondo, tactic. I'm going to go through each room and separate everything in there into their categories (boxes/containers/sacks). Hopefully, some of the Stuff can be moved to it's proper home. No discarding (apart from things that insist). I really need to have a (fairly) tranquil room downstairs, where I can make calm decisions. My house is too dis-organised to round up everything in a single category - at the moment, so I may have to do mini-kondoes, (by categories), as the boxes etc pile up in each room, until there is space to do complete categories. Eating an elephant...
Back later... :dance:Needs, NOT wants!
No food waste since November 2010. :j

Hi all, everyone is doing so well ,hope your engineer turns up early GQ, nothing worse than waiting in for someone when you need to pop out!
Yesterday I defrosted my small inside freezer (I have 3 freezers 2 in use,3rd used at Xmas ) the indoor 1 is mine ! Ha! I have gluten free bread and produce in it,so needs to be handy.
Did washing and cleaning as was a lovely day again, though it seems since sept hit it gets much colder at late afternoon:eek:
Nice sunny morning, I need to colour my hair as I am going to a spa with my girlie friends tomorrow as 1 of them is soon to be 50! Have already defuzzed and pulled out the suitcase, which inspired me to go through the top of wardrobe where it was kept, and kondo some extra items.found a lovely velvet throw which I have put on my leather sofa so it's nice and cosy now it's getting cooler:D
Later I need to find a suitable dress for our meal tomorrow so may have a try on session and may be able to kondo a few more items :jFocus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
Haha Iqueen that made me laugh! Re knicks I finally folded them yesterday and found I had 45 pairs even after kondo !
My bed is a metal frame and very high off the ground,( my niece used to call it the princess and the pea bed) underneath is full of plastic boxes with clothes, and as I couldn't get a valance to fit I bought white material and did a similar thing each piece being tied to the end posts of the bed, and enough material to tuck under the mattress, the plan was to velcro the middle to the wooden slats but haven't got round to it yet :eek:Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -

In particular as I paid into different tax systems but was not there for long-term, nor did I have roots such as property ownership, I am aware that as time goes on my footprint in a location becomes less. In a perfect world, all 3 will recognize my working history, but not willing to take that chance, so will be holding on to the proof until then.
I empathise with that. When I asked for a pension forecast they had my start date at my first job wrong. It was only by about half a year but it all counts! No records existed because of various re-organisations. Fortunately, for sentimental reasons, I had kept the handwritten letter from my first ever boss congratulating me on my appointment and asking me to contact him which he would hardly have done 6 months in advance. It was accepted as evidence.:)
I sorted through pieces of felt last night and kondoed all small scraps unless it was the only piece in that colour. All back in a bag for now although I need a better container. Then I made a start on ribbons and lace again discarding small scraps. I have some vintage pieces to hand wash. I've no idea what I want them for but they give me joy. Buttons next.
Three bags full are going to CS when I go out for food shop later.:)0 -
Hi Could I join in please? I've skim read the book. I've a house full of stuff and loads of things from my late parent's bungalow as Mum passed last year and Dad the year before. I've just been throwing out some paperwork of theirs, while made a start anyway. Old pension and insurance papers mainly. I'm renting out the bungalow at the moment and then DS hopes to move in next year so have to try to keep everything in order. I buy a lot of clothes from charity shop but I'm pretty good at re donating when I get fed up. Conservatory full of old pictures etc, from bungalow but my sister has said she'll take some so have sorted some out for her. Conservatory new a couple of years ago but now stuffed with things!0
