    Hi all,
This isn’t strictly kondoing but if I hadn’t read this thread I wouldn’t have learnt the magnificent art of Ranger Rolling.

We’re off to the Dordogne in the morning (middle of night to be more precise). As it’s just for the week and the forecast is hot hot hot we’ve decided to just take carry-on bags. Now I’ve always been good at packing light but never this good. Every item of clothing has been ranger rolled and it all fits in a medium back pack.

10 pairs of knickers , 3 pairs of socks, two dresses , one pair of trousers, 4 tops, beach towel, swim suit, 2 cardigans and a pair of sandals .

In fact it’s only two thirds full leaving plenty of room for toiletries and electronics etc. . . . I’m absolutely stunned.

For the record I’m not exactly sylph like so we’re not talking little scraps of material either
I've also found packing - and unpacking - to be super speedy now!

Please can one of you come and do my packing for me? I have to pack tonight for a 2 week work trip and am having trouble deciding what to take let alone how to fit it in (my case is just bigger than BA cabin size). I've worked out the days I can get laundry done, so in theory know how many days I need to have clothes for, but I don't know exactly what I'll be doing for some evenings and the weekend...

I would pop round, but it'd take me a few hours to get to you! A two-week work trip sounds hardcore. I swear by lots of layers - t-shirts under cardigans under pashminas, and on a recent trip away I was very smug when it was unexpectedly hot - everyone else was moaning about being too warm, I just took off a layer. I'm not really that smart at packing, it was mainly luck if I'm honest.

You always take more than you need, so I'd pack what you think you need and then take out at least one pair of trousers/skirt and two tops. I have never failed to bring back at least one unworn item!

    I've been Money Tipped!
Just popping in to catch up.
A bit sad because the fully kondoed places so far (DD room, our room, bathroom, my study) are a bit messy right now. I've been working like a crazy woman and the laundry and stuff has stacked up. And I was doing so well :(
SO - no more kondoing until I spend the next few days restoring order in those rooms. It will be easier than before, because there is less junk / clothes to tidy away!
DH and I are plotting major reorganising of bedrooms - this did not seem possible before, but with less stuff, suddenly it seems like it would work. It will be a long process (some redecorating, a bit of minor building work to organise) but I think it will be good! And it will give the children more space. Also waiting for (more) new furniture - and ditching the old broken mismatched flatpacks, which makes the whole house more joyful! I have become happier to spend money on nice solid stuff I know will last well, and less willing to put up with rubbing 'it'll do' furniture. It's strage, because this sounds like it's not money saving, but overall I think this Kondoing journey has been good for our finances so far; I'm certainly spending less, and have sold a couple of things, and because I want the house clear and clean I just don't feel as tempted to buy junk!

I always bring back LOTS of unworn stuff :) But sometimes also wish I'd taken something else. I'm going to put stuff in piles tonight, having worked out what my laundry intervals are, but also make sure I have options (and allow for spills). Shoes are the biggest problem, as I do need several different pairs. Guess I need to put them in first and work round them!

Hi all, I have got all my blankets together and there are only 6, two in use by the dogs and two plain cream fleece ones and one grey ikea one, and one really nice faux fur one. I love the last one, the dogs love theirs but I am undecided about the others. Not bothered about them but feel it might be foolish not to have some in case we need to put them in the car to protect it if we are moving something, or to sit on if we are going out somewhere.....any opinions? Should I keep them and then replace if I find some I love, or just chuck them out? My decision making is not very clear at the moment, need to re find my mojo, keep losing it at regular intervals! Thanks:)

:) My take on your modest blanket inventory would be to keep them. Perhaps keep one or two in the car, for snuggling up/ picknicking/ wrapping things you're bringing home?

I've been having thoughts about my spending habits over the years. I am not, and never have been affluent, so most of my consumption has been of pre-loved items, some of which were given to me, some of which were bought by me.

I realised that I had a mindset that I should always have 'something to show' for money spent. In other words, a physical item, rather than an ephermeral pleasure. It felt as if spending money on something without an item to show for it was wrong, wasteful, unacceptable.

I'm finally moving beyond this and am now able to actually spend some money on doing things rather than having things. I am also finding that the thrill of the purchase usually dissipates by the time I get the item home, leading to irritation and feelings of negativity.

Today I spent some money I was given on a cinema ticket. There is nothing to show for the experience in the physical world, I shan't even be keeping the ticket. But I enjoyed myself and that's what matters to me these days.

greyqueen thanks, that's probably what I will do. I totally agree, am definitely favouring experiences over purchases, it does take a while to change your mindset though. Am still finding it tempting to shop when I am feeling bored or restless, but find it very unfulfilling and find it quite hard to buy much, although have ordered some ankle boots today. there is a lack of much in my wardrobe which is not 100% casual, felt I would really like the option to feel a bit more polished, trainers and jeans are great for most things but would sometimes like to feel a bit smarter, and since I did clothes not much survived like that:) will send them back if not right though. Am loving visiting the cinema more now, get much more out of that than shopping, and you don't have the responsibility of any physical items weighing you down after, used to always want to own the book, or the dvd, now prefer to experience it in passing, if that makes any sense.

Embrace MK's method (just do it, her way,) and you will find yourself changing, as well as your house. :T

Even 'thanking' things, as you discard them, makes sense, because psychologically it gives us permission to let go of stuff we don't need! ;)

Go for it! There are really supportive people on this thread - not all are as woo as me! :rotfl:
Thanks for the welcome. My house is super cluttered. I find my biggest challenge is toilettries and the lack of storage in my house (my house is tiny!). I have a million books and dvds and unfortunately for me they ALL give me joy -since I only buy the ones I really like and watch and/or read over and over.

It's going to take me some time to go through stuff, right? :rotfl:

Although the journey to a decluttered house isn't any less daunting, at least I can see a path ahead of me now. MK has really focussed my thinking. While there are definitely parts of the book that I don't like or don't "get", overall it's been amazing. Came home from work exhausted and thought I'd never have the energy to do any Kondoing but it sneaked up on me anyway - sitting having tea I realised I'd grabbed a handful of DVDs and was sorting them to see which I still loved and wanted to keep. Despite having purged about 30 yesterday, I found two more today. That gave me a final result which led to organising them. It was wonderful - my inner librarian was over the moon. I have a fraction of the discs but they're easy to find, sorted by genre and then alphabetically! It's a wee bit sad I know but that finishing touch was what "sparked joy" for me so MK is definitely my hero!!
    Looking ahead
