Gosh - you have reminded me - I spent a summer near Machynlleth in the 1980s and cycled to the Centre for Alternative Technology daily to do volunteer work. I remember a sustainable house with solar panels, wind generators and methane capture and wonderful vegetable beds. I believe it is now very much more organised and mainstream but haven't been back for years.

I wonder why it has taken the rest of the world so long to catch up with the ideas being generated there then

They are now one of the leading authorities on sustainable energy, and have some off-shoot businesses. But, still as woo hippie, thank goodness! :rotfl:

From reading the full poem I then googled her and it came up with these funny sayings - http://www.sayingsplus.com/erma-bombeck-quotes.html its good to laugh. I love her housework sayings - doing housework properly will kill you!

Went to work today and left the kids with instructions to sort out their clothes. I think they started about half hour before I got home! And my DD doesnt want to carry on now im home grr. My DS has put all his clothes on my bed as he has a cabin bed, so we will go through them after dinner. (DS wont let me near her clothes!)

So pleased as just been to the tip and you can now walk in the hall again instead of dodging the bags!

It is quite a nice feeling that when dd has her family tea party for her bday I will not have stuff in black bags waiting to be sorted. Although there are a few boxes under my bed to do,the room looks more airy and when dd2 drawers go upstairs I can finally start to follow the book properly!

£4.70 - not alot but better than nothing and will nearly pay for my parking next week! They pay 40p/kg which I think is low compared with other clothes places. They're not cash 4 clothes but I can't remember what they are actually called

    Hi all

    Lovely poem.

13 books gone, 2 bin bags of paper gone, 1 box of old computer games/random CDs gone, 1 bag of random cables gone.

I like the idea of keeping one small box of mementos for the kids - and it struck me that at the moment no-one but me would actually know what things belonged to which child. I am going to keep an eye out for a couple of nice boxes for when I get to that category.

I did find a bag of old school work yesterday and it's gone. I just cant see that the kids will want to look at old maths books or spelling tests from primary school when they are older.

    :) Evening all.

I've just decluttered some charity chuggers from my doorstep and sent a cross email to the charity complaining about this practise. And less than 2 hours after dodging another chugger on the precinct. Grrrr!!

Wanna laff? The top which I thought I had decluttered with yesterday's donation bags is still here; turns out that I had several bags standing side by side, tucked this neatly kondo'd item into what I thought was the donation one and it ended up in a non-donation bag.

Doh! Never mind, it can leave with the next lot. It's digging its heels in, I tell thee, not wanting to leave the premises.:rotfl:

Have decluttered some library books back to t'library, run a couple of errands and assembled the yarn stash, most of which arrived in my life last weekend, into the linen basket, so I can see what I have. Am knitting a charity blanket, so the stuff will be used up and exit as soon as the item is finished. It's not a perfect solution but better than having it all in plastic bags all over the floor.

I'm continuing to work my way through the supplies of scrap paper and pencils when I use them up at my work, another pencil went to meet its maker this week, worn down to a stub.

I posted recently about the OU course books I didn't know what to do with. The English ones are sorted at least - I kept the first one, which was my favourite part of the whole module, and the rest have been recycled :) I'll look at the History ones when we're back from our holiday.
